Isn't it amazing that people come on the board and tell us all about a great place with people who really try hard to please and we should all try it, then on another post the same day they knock another near by establishment, bad experience 'not going back' dont they think that these people are also trying hard, my point is IF YOU CANT SAY SOMETHING GOOD, DONT SAY SOMETHING BAD WITHOUT SUBSTANTIATING IT and let people decide for themselves, one persons good is another persons not so good.

Life is like that. Some good things some bad.

If you are referring to the posts about Guido's. Some good some bad? Well I went to the joint due to some rave reviews I read here. So I along with others are just pointing out there are much better places to eat here. They try hard at Guido's but the place sucks.

Not just my opinion.

lazy days,

I apologise, your absolutely right, if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Maybe I caught Guidos on an off day, I will however, make a booking with Lilli for the weekend of December 6th, I will part with some of my (believe me) hard earned money and give it another go.

Is that fair Enough ??? maybe you could go have a drink at Lapida as well.

Weary,

if you didn't like it - that's no problem....

I think Lilli has a lot of mates on this board that are "bigging" the place up....

To be fair Lillie do try hard and it is one of the few places I have been to and had the same meal and it was good both times .

The only other place was safron but others went and said it was not good.

I think a lot of people go on several occasions and have good food and service consistantly hece they are amazed and do prise it.

How often here do we go out for a meal then go back and are dissapointed in some way, It happens it seems to me consistancy is the problem here.

There are many nice places to eat both east and west of Girne, and some of them look rather downbeat but in our experience the small little local places are great and you are treated like royalty, two that stick out 'for us' are the little Esentepe restaurant, just up past the hotel on the right and the Green river or maybe valley(i think) on the hill road to and before Buffavento.

I have never been to Guido's, and doubt very much if I will ever go, due to the excessive amount of posts on various boards. Total overload in my opinion.

The cynical side of me is wondering if people are being asked to post how wonderful this restaurant is, due to the amount of posts on this particular establishment. Have never known any other restaurant to attract so many postings.

Agree totally with Lazy Days, those small downbeat places you come across, are absolute gems. Don't be going telling everyone though, or we won't be able to get a table.

I think it is very dangerous to recommend any eating place, we all have different expectations and palets, be adventurous and do your own explorations. You will find what suits you and what does not. I have had bad or poor experiences but I would not slag them off publically because I just dont think that is fair, what suits me ,may not suit you. Just my view

I think it must be true that this lady (Lilli) asks all her friends and regular customers to post a rave revue. There is no other explanation for all the hype.

When I was there, it was pretty quiet. The place must be break even at best. So any free publicity goes a long way to paying the bills I guess.

If any posters here have a great experience in one of the restaurants here. Great. But I for one will not be rushing there with the hubbies hard earned. I would rather explore the island and find out myself.

Sorrry if people were offended by my negative post on Guido's. I wont do it again. But with such rave reviews I expected a whole lot more. I was really disappointed.

I for one have never eaten at Guido's but I will probably give it a try next time over there but I find it great to explore and try different places each night, we find some very good and some not as good and I think thats par for the course wherever you go in the world.

My view is if the owners have achieved a shed load of free ads on this site whats the problem with that....go for it.

No need for persona linsults Mr Nige.

I think someone who posts on here as much as you do, plus the other forum you are involved in needs more advice on getting a life than I.

With all respect

Val, Your assumptions are wholly incorrect. I have never been to Guido's, cannot comment on the food one way or another, apart from reading across the BB's that the majority of clientelle rate it as superb, with a handful of people being disappointed. You haven't said specifically why you were disappointed or why Guido's did not live up to your expectations. Maybe you should have spoken to Lilli at the time rather than post negative comments. IMO It would have been courteous to the owners to afford them the opportunity of addressing your "disappointment".

I am not offended by your post, however, I am puzzled as to why you felt the need to post it, rather than take the steps suggested above which would have been the more sensible option don't you think?

Nige,

Val is entitled to her opinion.

Sitting on the fence - you seem very "pro" Guido's, which makes me for one a tad suspicious.....

I've eaten at many good places, but couldn't see me posting the amount of postings you've done for Guido's

So in essence - i think that all these postings could have done more harm than good......

Obsessive-computer posting disorder (OCPD) is a potentially disabling anxiety disorder. The person afflicted with OCPD becomes trapped in a pattern of repetitive senseless thoughts and behaviors that are very difficult to overcome. A person's level of OCPD can be anywhere from mild to severe, but if severe and left untreated, it can destroy a person's capacity to function at work, at school or even to lead a comfortable existence in the home. They simply spend there whole life posting comments on computer forums.

Nige Get a life. There is a big world out there.

Just say NO to forum posting.

Val44,

I can't remember how many times I have been dissapointed with Films, Restaurants, Plays, and what have you, mainly because they have been over-hyped by well intentioned friends who wanted me to share in their latast 'discovery'.

Honestly, nothing on this earth can live up to such unrelenting praise - if only they would say, "tried so-and-so's the other night - weren't too bad" then you would be pleasantly surprised when it turned out be better than average.

Mind you, in Yorkshire the phrase "Weren't too bad" is the equivalent of the Queen's award to Industry!

And yes, I did go to Guido's, on their opening day, and funnily enough, happen, it weren't too bad...

Keith.

I posted that we had a lovely meal at Guido's, that was all I said I certainly did not recommend the place to anyone, that is entirely up to the individual.

I only wanted people to know about our experience and I most definately was not asked to post anything.

I will respond to your post re Guido's.

The restaurant cannot get the basics right. The chairs are uncomfortable. The cutlery cheap. Orders taken by Lilli and food brought downstairs by a young boy, who plonks it in front of you. I think he was the washer upper. Food was not hot when it arrived. There were only 2 other couples in the restaurant. Lilli asked the chef what the specials of the day were. He responded. ERRR? MMMM? Steak or a pasta dish.

Should I discuss this incompetence with the owners? I thought better not.

Hi Val, i would have thought thats exactly you would talk to first , rather than broadcast it on the forum , without giving these people the right to reply to your complaints , and no i have never been to guido's , the bistro is their lively hood they should have been the first to know if you were not happy

Nige!

I was just messing about with Kay (if you'll pardon the expression) - I never thought that you would ban me, well not seriously, not straight away that is, not for a FIRST OFFENCE for pity's sake...

Oh please Sir! have Mercy on me!
