Really interesting post.

Shell have a lot more assets than Noble and would not be wasting their time, so fingers crossed some good may come out of this.

Also on the google page is the interesting article about Turkey and Iran - things are starting to boil!!

Well I am not quite sure that Shell are interested in the Med as there are bigger fish to fry (pun intended) i.e. the Black Sea as Turkey are ramping up their exploration activities big time in that area.

But we will wait and see.

Wyn

The problem with the Caspian is nobody knows who owns what and they have been 'discussing' it for years without any agreement but in theory it does not matter because with the advent of horizontal drilling you can be sitting in your agreed (or otherwise) 'zone' and drilling into someone else's reserves next door. So to a certain extent the Caspian is a bit of a free for all. They also cannot agree whether it is a sea or a lake. From what I remember when I was out there last the Caspian 'sea' is fed from one major river only and there is (maybe not so much now) an abundance of Sturgeon fish which are predominately freshwater fish and the Caspian is not tidal. And it makes a big difference to what bordering countries are likely to own as to whether it is a lake or a sea.

Aj,

The US of A have had designs on the Caspian basin for the last 25 years.

Sit quietly, and look at what has happenned in that area. The last pieces of the jigsaw, are about to be put

in place. Get your map out and look closlely.

a Breakup of the USSR.

b American support for the breakaway states.

c Iraq.

d Afghanistan

e Tempory pipeline through Turkey.

Doesnt look too good for Iran's long term independance.

All that is missing is Tony Blair, and weapons of mass destruction. Ooops! Sorry!
