I have not been able to use the sight for three days now. I heard about 2 months back people saying that Turkey had banned use of it because of something to do with Ataturk. I didn't believe them but now I'm not so sure.

we were on youtube last night listening to some old music, but it kept cutting the songs off and then starting up again ,very annoying ,but as some of the video's were very old maybe that happens to them, it's the first time that we had used the site.

It's Turkey behaving like that great democracy, China. When the rulers of a country are so afraid of free speech that they do things like that, you wonder what kind of country it really is.

There must be a way to get it back? Are you saying it's gone forever?

Its back! After 3 days for me. So what are the full reasons for the ban in Turkey? I hope a petition was started up to stop the ban. Or would that have been too much effort?

ozwozz,

Starting a petition against the government in Turkey would mark you out as a subversive and you could end up in custody.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Have friends who sit for hours on this site. Why sit in front of screen with such wonderful country around us. Just go for a walk, even the nearest Efes supplier would do, but sitting watching this rubbish must be a recipe for a quick hole in the ground!!!

A court in Istanbul has issued an order denying access to the video-sharing website YouTube. The state owned Turk Telecom implemented the ban today after an escalating dispute between Greek and Turkish users of the site.

it looks like you will be having trouble getting on youtube.

As far as I know people in Britain don't get arrested and locked up for bad-mouthing Gordon Brown.

gibson,

If you mean the arrest of the MP and the bugging of a top cop's meetings with a journalist, then I agree with you. The good news is the bungling plods have been told their evidence is inadmissable as bugging journalists is unacceptable. Mind you, in Turkey/TRNC they've been murdered, firebombed and locked up so things ain't so bad in the UK.

msg 29,

I do think he did take his own life but it doesn't make me trust the UK authorities any more than I do now.

Also the statement from the inquiry that they were "satisfied" he killed himself could be taken both ways, IMO.

dundun,

A disgraceful case but it gave her publicity - which is often half the battle.
