My friend and I arrived almost 4 weeks ago and are struggling to find social activities for young 40 somethings on a Saturday night. Actually on any night would be interesting. Please email me with ideas maddie.menzies@btopenworld.com

Hmmm not a lot really. Just the usual suspects - eat, drink, karaoke, darts league, pool competitions, line dancing (!) Then there are the usual entertainers - Anna, Jonnie Hawkins, Anna and Jonnie, Funky Monkey (featuring Jonnie Hawkins and sometimes Annie), Danny Fisher as Elvis (not sure if he is still around but he might be performing with Anna and Jonnie somewhere).

There are one off things like the Lambousa Comedy Club (next one on 6th December), ChorusLambousa, etc. Also Kyrenia Amateur Dramatics (KADS) put on performances and often canvass for new talent.

Can't think of anything else at the moment.

PS I know I was being flippant about the entertainment but it is a bit samey

Bingo nights are great fun. Makesure you dont sit next to the older xpats as some them have colostomy bags fitted. Oh what joy. Some of them play twister afterwards.

BillyB you don't want Maddie to get too excited!

Maddie I am now seriously worried about you if my response is the best bit of entertainment you've had since you got here.

I just remembered you can also play bridge in Karsiyaka on a Friday afternoon!

You have no idea Lem in sleepy old Alsancak. It all happens in Karsiyaka.

Maddie there is a cinema at Lemar in Karaoglanoglu, details of what's on are printed in Cyprus Today.

You will find contact details for Hash House Harriers in the Yellow Pages here http://www.cypyp.com/dataassociations.htm plus all other associations and groups. Coincidentally, Alcoholics Anonymous are at the top of the page. I think you may be needing this very soon!!

NB The last paragraph is a joke and is not intended to cause offence to anybody

I once set off with good intentions but ended up joining Alcoholics Unaminous,

after a group meeting I staggered home,

the wife shouted at me,

"What are you doing coming home half drunk?"

"I ran out of money!" I slurred,

trying to negotiate the stairs.

God, these self groups are great!

Maddie "I have a complete boxed set of a Shakespeare play, scripts and props, just need 10 people to put on the play" didn't they come in the box? doesn't sound too complete to me if the actors are missing...try looking in the bottom of the box again, although they might be dead by now I guess. Oh! ;¬(

It does sound like you need to make contact with the people who put shows on at Chateau Lambousa...

"flutter on the 2:40 at Newbury - never done that before either" See, you are trying new things too........ although I'd give this one a wide berth.. the slippery slope don't you know....

Dancing... well there are loads of Music Bars and Disco's (don't confuse with Night Clubs which are generally said to be brothels) Also dance classes might appeal....

gonyeli is between girne and lefkosa.

if you drive down the old lefkosa road you will find it.

basically turn right at the speed camera at bogaz.
