You want a professional product, or China.

prof £ 200, China 100 pounds. both of which will be your job to clean up.

Buy only a good make of power saw, Husqvarna, Shtil, Jonsred, Dolmar or Makita avoid cheap imitations and Lidil type offers.

Maintain it well, keep the chain sharp and empty the fuel away if you are not going to use it for a while.

Your question about liecence yes you do available from the forestry department opposite Girne hospital cost about 40TL.

Just to expand a little on Hippo's message 8 (which is absolutely correct) - I went to the forestry department (Orman dairesi) and obtained a 2 - year license for 1 chainsaw. You pay 20tl per chainsaw, per year. You must give them the make, model number and serial number for each saw you license. I asked them to clarify the license rules, and their 'head man' told me the license is required if you are transporting the saw in a vehicle, but is not required if you only use it at your own property. (so how do you get it home from the shop, I hear you asking?!)

The reason for licensing chainsaws is because too many were being used for illegal 'firewood gathering', hence the need to regulate possession. He suggested it would not be a good idea to have a chainsaw in your vehicle if you were travelling through forestry land, cos if the police stop you, they would most probably confiscate the saw and possibly prosecute you !
