Get a letter if you can. I tried to go south to airport while waiting for my residency and they tried to fine me 186TL. Forced to turn round and missed picking up friends.

I might be wrong, but I don't think they do letters anymore, you have to wait until your residency comes through, if your past your sell by date.

Do you have existing residency? if so then you have to go to a crossing and leave on the last day and return and get a 90 day this is what we were told at the police stn and did it no problem

We have always been able to leave at Ercan and re enter once Residency was applied for, they normally write a number in the top corner of your passport.

This is your residency no. and passport control normally just type it in and they can see that you have applied.

We have done that 4 years on the trot, unless it has changed this year.

This is taken from the BRS website today

You can ring Cana ( pronounced Janna ) on 0392-6111022 to check your papers have arrived. This will avoid wasted trip.

Hope it helps.

Start mine tomorrow....help!

Frankedad - going/coming via Ercan will be no problem at all. I have done this 3 times now and have had no letter or number in my passport. The first time we enquired at the police station about a letter and they said it wasn't necessary and we also asked at the airport, again they said it was fine. You will be given a 90 day visa.

THis has all changed this year, up until two years a go you needed a letter, last year as long as you were in the computer it wasn't a problem (I know as I did go out fo the countrty) this year, you will get fined if you residency has run out, at least that was the situation at the end of October when I had applied for my temporary residency and my old one had run out by one day and I tried to leave the country. Once again they have moved the goal posts. You may be allowed out of the country, but you will have to pay a fine when you re-enter even if it's just across the border the fine will be based on each day that your visa has finished.

The same also happened to me Cazleo, I think they must have changed the rules, my temporary was applied for, but old one ran out before I got the renewal and they wouldn't let me across the border unless I paid the fine first! So you won't even be allowed out unless you pay.

I got my 90 days the week before the residency ran out, but they said this didn't count, because it had run out.

I thought maybe it depended on who was on the desk at the time, so went back another day to try again, but the same thing happened, wouldn't let me out without the new residency stamp in my passport or unless I paid the fine.

They have no information on the computer to say that it is applied for.

I do not understand this. For the last five years we have applied for our residency early Sept.

Always told them we have to go to UK mid Sept,

They have said no problem and just simply made sure that our application num. (your pink residency num. is written in the top left of your passport)

We have never (touch wood had any problem or delay) and have exited and re entered Ercan with no problem.

We have always been told that if you have applied then the info. is on computer.

I have also had no problems in the past, just told them residency was applied for, but when I did it in October this is what happened (message 12), so I think it has recently changed.

This is a new procedure for this year, before you have been able to leave without a fine, as long as they had seen you have applied for the new residency. Even if you have applied for the new residency before it runs out (which you hav to do anyway unless you want to start the whole process again) you will have to pay a fine if you leave the country after your residency has run out ad before you have received the new one in your passport. The ONLY way round this at the moment - I was told this by immigration at the border - is to leave before midnight on the LAST day of your residency and return back into the North after mdnight, this will give you (hopefully) a 90 day visitors visa.

@ msg 13 JohhnyLee, if you have lived here for five years you shouldn't be surprised by the change, it happens all the time - eg last year suddenly needing blood and TB tests every year instead of just when initally applying for residency

Yes it is very complictaed living here.

But we would still rather be here than the UK.

I hope you all over come these problems and still remain positive about TRNC.

Sometimes I could scream.

But then i think about how bad the UK had become.

Also at the end of the day I believe that they are right to look after their own people first.

I bet we would have all been happier in the UK if we had been put first, instead of every one else who entered the country getting priority treatment.

Good luck to you all Regards lee
