I have asked this question before about freshwater fishing, i like to do carp fishing, i was hoping there was a reservoir in the north stocked with carp. There was one i checked out between paphos and limassol but apparently the stocks were low due to eastern bloc men catching them to eat, which is suppose to be common in most of europe to my surprise.

You are absolutely right. DC is confused as usual. He'll get his collar felt soon.

In 2004, with the authority of the appropriate TRNC ministry, I visited numerous reservoirs to fish and gain data to establish the feasibility of attracting tourists for fishing. At that time it was apparant that they discouraged fishing in reservoirs as the locals tend to eat anything that they catch and the water is often polluted with many toxic minerals. It was also apparant that the fish stocks are primarily Carp, but other species also such as Tilapia and a few eels of Congar proportions. I caught Carp to 10 lbs but year on year the quality of fishing diminished. By the nature of some bites which trashed 10lb BS line I suspect that many of the reported "losses of a massive Carp" were actually giant eels. The ministry were interested in raising revenue (ie fishing licences paid for by foreigners only) but were not prepared to spend any money whatsoever on cleaning up the filth which is dumped in and around what were once beauty spots. I lost interest.

Gavin. Years ago fly fishing in the troodos mountain range was prolific. My guess is that there is now probably more chance of catching a 4 lb bluebottle or coca cola bottle !

the reservoir near mersilik ( hans will tell you its real name ) is solid with carp but its not easy to get to. its only ten mins from our front door in tatlisu so for someone who only likes freshwater fishing its a god send. it must be the deepest lake in the TRNC its water level never changes from winter to summer so it must be spring fed. ive only caught carp the biggest ive had was eight pounds but ive lost some really big fish . pole is the method as its ten feet deep down the side with pellet or corn on size 12 hook. feeder is hard work as its snaggy with under water trees.

Have you been on google earth mate??? You know left at the third tree and all that. Don't know how you found the last one.

Fished Mersilik in October, from the road go down to the left almost opposite the trees in the water it shallowed up to 4ft in the margins. Caught 11 in four hours best was 12"6 lost a common at the net at least 18-20lb. All caught on luncheon meat

By the way waggler at 6 metres was about 7 feet deep go a foot further and it dropped like a stone gave up plumbing at around 15 feet

Why is it necessary to have a password? Are the files top secret?
