If someone is convicted of benefit fraud in the uk - jailed for a time and asked to repay the funds - would they be allowed to leave the uk??

If they have their passport, yes, if no overseas travel was a condition of release or bail, they would be informed.

Thye do need to check bout reporting conditions if they have been released early.

Sounds like they would fit in well here.

When the police checks are done they might hit a stumbling block though...

Don't understand why your question is aimed at people living in NC. Surely if you are in UK you would ask by telephoning/visiting a Jobcentre or contacting a Police Station to ask. If your living in NC then ask at the local police station. You will never get a straight answer on a Forum board as everyone has different opinions for a complex question.

If you know of someone who has done this and is about to leave UK its your duty to report the changes as a Tax payer/UK Citizen.

There are 2 separate issues in your question. Benefit Fraud being paid back after serving the prison sentance. Leaving the UK if arrangements have/have not been made to pay back the Benefit.

Your okay if you stay in europe, it does not matter if you did benefit fraud or raped someone your not getting into many non eu countries. I have never known anyone to go to jail for benefit fraud, it must have been a lot of money over a very long period.

When people have speeding offenses and attempt to leave or enter the TRNC they are stopped and not allowed exit/entry until the debt is paid.Loads have been on this forum and recalled their experience to warn others.

There is also such a system in England. The minute your passports are scanned you will be stopped. Once the court order is set up you are trapped until the debt is paid.

If you managed to get past this your problems wouldn't be over. If you are not millionaires that will benefit the TRNC economy and the Brits ask for you to be deported .............you'll be back on the next plane. You don't need to be a lawyer, just do some research.

I would imagine that you may also have conditions imposed, like seeing a probation office every week or month.

Thanks all for your advice. Some of it was helpful. Just thought I'd ask the question to see if anyone really knew the answer.
