Change in visa payment at Istanbul airport

If you are travelling to Turkey please note that the visa control office at Instanbul Ataturk airport is no longer accepting TL for payment of visas nor will they accept credit/debit cards. Payment can only be made in Euros or American Dollars. A 90 day visa for UK passport holders is 15 Euros.

Correct. Only accept Euros or Dollars. We wasted 35 minutes trying to get TL changed to Euro. In the end one of the airline help desks was able to change for us. Incredible that a country with TL as their currency will not accept same!

Some years ago they would accept TL, but charged double if you wanted to use it instead of sterling!!

"If you are a British Citizen you can obtain tourist visa either at the port of entry in Turkey for £10.00 or ....."

NB This will be when you present a UK passport at the office.

In Istanbul 17 days ago he wanted Dollars,Euros or Pounds I didn't have so he accapted TL in the end.

Also, the system seems to have changed a little in that the visa people now [ink] stamp "90 days" on the visa, it was previously always just stamped by immigration, but was sent back to visa desk for extra [ink] stamp this time.
