I don't think its allowed, sometimes they get changed so as not to access them, for instance try and post a link to Nige's forum. In fact now I think about it only Dutch Crusader can advertise his site on a regular basis.

Hi Vicki

Ref message 3.

The history is that rule 15 was brought in to stop serial posters of certain links. The owner of this board developed some code to stop a certain poster from serial posting of links to his board. If this person had been sensible then there would not of been any need. With regards to links being posted to cyprusnow.info then I would challenge anyone to tell me that it is prolific. You may be getting confused with DC posting links to his site of which is purely for information purposes and is not a discussion site. In the past (maybe 2 times) I have posted links to cyprusnow.info purely because of the limitations of this site with regards to posting photos and text longer than 1000 characters (supposedly).

Aj..

I think maybe if you look back on posting you might agree, and forgive me if I am wrong ! But a lost of people were requesting and asking if the chat room was open. When I first read these threads I had no idea what members were talking about I though they were just joking and messing about

So most of they time the links were posted upon a request ? But I have not seen many threads asking for a link to yours and Han's Forum. So IMHO and maybe others its a crafty way of playing the advertising game.

So is it OK to post links to other forums as a one off on this topic surely it would then stop the need to post any links on other topics as the name of the forum would be known and members could then look up this topic to find the link. It would also stop people being duped with all the shortened links to forums.

@ msg 7, GinaC: Shortened URL's are used to avoid broken links in emails and posts. I don't blame you for your lack of knowledge when you write about computers, the Internet, shortened URL's and what have you. The site I use to shorten URL's ( http://www.is.gd) always offer you to see to what long URL you are directed. And the site offers me some very basic information about the users.

I really wish you would stop your unfounded accusations about being duped. You are not duped.

Do some homework on the Internet via Google.

I wasn't accusing you this time Hans it was a general statement as others have also used these shortened links. I might be a novice but I like to know what site a link takes me to perhaps I'm over cautious. Perhaps if it is clear in a post that one of these short links takes you to a forum then many may be happy with that. But I have seen posts on here for example about a news item with a link. I expect that link to take me to the news item and not a forum with the news item on it.

What you see is what you get and if there is a link posted to cyprusnow.info then it will be exactly that, so you have the choice to visit or not. There are no 'tiny' url links that do not tell you where you will end up. We play by the rules of this board and if the Forum Admin are not happy then I can assure you that we will be told.

We regard our board as a complement to 44 not a competitor.

My shortened URL's ALWAYS take you to a page ON MY WEBSITE "All About All Crusades" ( http://www.allcrusades.com ) with the offered or required info.

I don't remember to have ever used a shortened URL to ask for attention for the illustrated message board I have the pleasure to run with AJ (and Erolz as our valued technical supervisor).

I understand where you are coming from and I do not know why certain people will post a link to their site to view a news item that could have been accessed from a direct link to the news provider.

But I guess that is underhand promotion of the aforementioned persons board.

Oh and by the way that particular board was threatened by CyprusToday about scanning and printing their news content without permission. Make of that what you will.

Are there copy-write laws in NC, if there are how does the DVD shop get away with copying the latest DVD's or even films that are current? Of course you may not know the answer to this so, I will ask if anyone on here does?

I really do not think you can compare the two situations. CyprusToday is compiled, printed and published in the TRNC, The purchase of of 'illegal' dvd's would only infringe copyright of companies outside of the TRNC. Now seeing as the TRNC does not exist as far as other countries are concerned then I do not see a problem per se but what I see as problem with is people that quote news items without posting the source of the information. And also scanning and posting news items from papers that do not have an internet presence and rely on their income from their weekly sales.

Yes philbailey, in NC you can Blackmail, fleece and stab someone in the back but, you can not copy a written word. You couldn't make it up!

15. Posting Links to Other Forums

Posting links to other forums is permitted with the discretion of forum admins.

Pointing out something on another forum for information purposes, is acceptable.

Nevertheless, linking to one specific forum repetitively, for the purposes of advertising that forum, will get you BANNED.

Thanks No1Doyen so I guess it is OK for members to post a full link to other forums on this topic but not repetitively. So best check if another member has posted a link before another posts the same. I think for forums the short links should not be used in this instance otherwise we could end up with multiple links to the same site and end up getting banned.
