is it safe to buy pre 74 property in solicitors name

Please can anyone advise me. a friend of mine is thinking of buying an old property that needs renovating,within the Walled City of Famagusta. The property has pre 74 title deeds and the solicitor is offering to have it put in his name and then he will put the property In Trust for my friend.How safe is this??

I am a TRNC lawyer as well as a UK solicitor born and brought up in the UK and recently moved down to TRNC. Currently work at a law firm in Nicosia and can travel to Kyrenia as and when needed. I am a registered non-practising solicitor in the UK, currentlly registered with the UK Law Society with the registration number 419010. Because I am a non-practising solicitor as I currently live in the TRNC my name will not appear on their website as their website only lists the names of the solicitors with an up to date practising certificate.

Thank you for the update. It was the constant and repetative post, irrespective of the original question, which caught my eye.



I assumed all Law Society registered solicitors appeared, showing whom they worked for, when they qualified etc, except when they had been suspended or who had their registration removed for disciplinary reasons.



Perhaps it would assist if you disclosed your Nicosia based Law Firm name?
