You the trnc government ignore our human rights your attorney general says fraud is a civil matter so I say stuff your census, I for 1 will not be answering my door to your lot. ( nor will any one else who happens to be here on Sunday ! )

I call on all victims of property scams who are still trapped here to do the same.

I would think the surest way to remain ignored is to give the impression that no ex-pats live here. The larger the ex-pat population appears in the census then the more notice will be taken of us. We may not have any vote now but they know that if there is re-unification then we will have voting rights as European citizens - so we are not without influence.

I think all expats should cooperate in all matters, otherwise we are being just as bad as them.

I would think it is illegal to avoid the census and echo Jovial John's message above ex-pats need to be counted and the government be aware of ex-pat numbers.

Message 2 Just to clarify even if Cyprus was reunited - the only voting rights you would have is in local ie council or European elections. I guess that is better then nothing if we ever get to that day?

I think its important to record the nos of expats just in terms of alerting all sides as to your nos and to help ensure

that should the day come you have rights in terms of any settlement

Surely the more ex-pats registered the better to get any problems aired, if everyone hides i would have thought The government won't take the property problems seriously.

I have cleaned the thread up and have re opened it. The Original Poster is on an enforced holiday so there is no need for any posts specifically aimed at the individual. Keep on topic or join the Holiday maker

I hope that both members who took it off-topic got the same treatment. They are at each other like children on many threads.

just a bit of friendly advice for your benefit you will not do yourself any good by not opening the door as you say to take part in the census in the long run . its for your benefit in the long run to take part and to write on the forum that you will not open the door .they know who you are and you will suffer the consequences as you put it .the choice is yours !!

I wonder what people think what good a post like msg 1 will do to the status of (British) expats in TRNC. This forum has readers in the TRNC government and this post msg 1 will only make more enemies. I for one will have nothing to do with post msg 1. Just for the record.

I have been cheated by House Agents and Solicitors in the UK - and the law did not protect me. That does not give me the right to ignore the law of the UK where it applies (eg in this case Income Tax) howevr much I may dislike it.

Same applies here only more so since you are not a citizen. If you fail to complete the Census you are not only shooting yourself in the foot , you are damaging the reputation of the whole expatriate community.

If you hate it that much the best way to vote is with your feet.

Notwithstanding all of the above, of course we will be welcoming and polite (that is if I can drag the dogs away), however, it would be nice to think that someone, just someone in Government, would take just a tiny bit of notice of us, just once in a while, wouldn't it?

Light the fire, have a couple of drinks, potter around the house, a bit of cleaning here and there, a cupboard check you forget what’s in them. Then to your local bar @ 18:30 every one will be out at the same time…Great Crack. I wish I was home….

"Too much ado over nothing"... I would say

AND what was all that about the supermarkets being filled up with shoppers yesterday? Shopkeepers could not fill up the shelves fast enough! I walked accross Lemar to buy some Chicken from a smaller retailer and there was something like 12 people waiting to pay before me... One would think there is a world war about to start, with a month's curfew on the way! Many people living here must be suffering with schizophrenic paranoia (imported?). The scene I witnessed yesterday, I had not witness between 1964 and 1966 in Turkish Cypriot enclaves in Cyprus - when there was a war going on! To thing we had Ramazan not long ago, when people fasted for 14 hours a day for a whole month makes the whole "food attack" I witnessed yesterday even more comical

Just like Christmas in the Uk trolleys full to bursting just for one maybe two days and all the shops are open on Boxing Day anyway. Normally sane folks seem to go mad.
