What happened to the post match party at The Red Lion? Who has come up with the change of venue ? Very handy for the visitors who are staying at the Citrus tree, a lot of consideration for those lads.

The home of Pumas rugby has always been west of Girne. Who are these people who have hi jacked the name for their own gains. Let them answer this question how much financial support has the Old Mill put into the team. Citrus Tree -long time supporter-meals-accommodation Corner Bar- provided free meals etc Waterfront- collections for Pumas Red Lion- after match party's The home of rugby in Kibris is as always in the West.

I think you'll find we had the 2011 end of season party at the Old Mill as well as many other events. I guess it just depends on which side of Girne you live..........

'The Pumas would do well to look at their roots'- The team was formed in Alsancak with great support initially from the Citrus Tree and later the Corner Bar Waterfront and the Red Lion The initial coaches and managers lived in the Alsancak area and without the use of the local facilities the would not have been a team. I dislike the way that the Old Mill uses the expression the home of rugby when it is plainly not. Already a business has failed using the name of the Pumas as promotion. In the last few three years there have been a number of Johnny come latelys on the scene who's main aim seems to be getting their picture in the paper. Lets get back to basics keep the Pumas in Alsancak and remember if it wasn't for the local establishments here there wouldn't be a team. Pumas have some respect and consideration for your real home.

Hippo I am not going to comment on your argument ref the home of rugby, however being the guy who ran 15s I take huge exception to your comment "Already a business has failed using the name of the Pumas as promotion". Wind your neck in, you know nothing about 15's how it was run or why we closed it. We supported the Pumas all the way through with sponsorship (look on the arm of the shirts) free food before games, discounted drinks to members of the club and contributions to the club on match days. We thought we could run a business and help the club at the same time. Yes we were honoured to be the official club house at the time but we made more money on non-club nights than we ever did on match days. Those days are gone and we closed the bar nearly two years ago. Let it rest, and let the current team including the current coaches get on with the job of beating the Ottomans on Saturday with this stupid carping.

As secretary of the Pumas I feel it is only fair that everyone is aware of the facts. I will leave the East/West divide to others, along with claims of being "Home of Rugby/Pumas". The game against the Ottomans was to have been played at Alsancak and arrangements were made accordingly. The Citrus Tree offered a good deal to the visitors. It was planned to have a drink and presentation at the Red Lion before the Ottomans went "down town" to Girne. Sadly the pitch became unavailable to us, a fact made eveident on the late issue of football fixtures. The game was in jeopardy until we were offered the use of Dokuz Mais. Just to the east of the Lefkosa roundabout. Sadly there were no changing facilities here. Pumas players expressed the view that the after match event would be better held nearer the pitch. Transport has been arranged to take the Ottomans back to their hotel and then to the Old Mill. Pumas players will wash and go there as well. We will return tio Alsancak .

message 11 'Pumas players expressed the view that the after match event would be better held nearer the pitch' How many Pumas players were involved in this discussion ? I certaintly wasn't and I, unlike a lot of others, have actually paid some subscriptions this year .I am pretty certain that this 'Pumas players' actually means 5 or 6 people. ' Transport has been arranged to take the Ottomans back to their hotel and then to the Old Mill.' Great logestics, when the Red Lion is almost nextdoor to the Citrus Tree, I'm sure the opposition will love travelling all the way back to 'The home of rugby' I'm very suspicious that this must have been planned before last saturday evening, it seems very strange that the committee was consulted an entertainment arranged all in the space of TWO DAYS !

and here it goes again...so much bickering and moaning and as usual from people who don't know the facts and contribute very little. One of the reasons I am no longer involved! Who said politics shouldn't influence sport! Sadly that's never been the case with the Pumas!!! Good luck on Saturday Pumas, looking forward to watching the game at the 19 Mayis pitch - moved there due to the census taking place on Sunday and Alsancak Football club playing on Saturday instead of the Sunday - but I guess the census is the Pumas fault as well!!

Martin - Having the balls to answer your questions really is not the issue, thankfully the players have the respect of the club in their best interest by not to entering into a debate on a public forum - I really cant see why you have such an issue with a change of venue?? - why on gods earth would we hold a clandestine meeting to privately discuss going to the old mill instead of the citrus tree or red lion ? - Simple facts were we were forced to play in Town by Alsancak Football Club aka Home of the Pumas!, Ottomans wanted to go out in town after meals and drinks. Having no changing facilities at the ground the players would have to go home, shower, drive to Citrus Tree, eat, then drive to red lion and then back into town!!! Its not rocket science to work the logistics - The proposed alternative was to transport the Ottomans back to the citrus tree so they could shower up and then transport them back to the Mill...simple

Proposal was put to the committee via correct channels!!!!! - and they made a decision - end of Unfortunately there was no selfish ulterior motives, or lack of respect or exclusion, neither was it based on who's paid what sub money, there were about 9 players present at the time of our clandestine meeting..which until recently has been approx the amount of those that turn up to train, and again sorry to disappoint but yes it was organised in two days, by Rick, the old mill and Kelvin.....maybe if it had taken longer you would feel differently? Have some faith in your team mates abilities - maybe time for us to start concentrating on getting a result on the pitch! Hippo - should have called yourself 'Pluto' mate!! - really cant be arsed even bothering to write a reply to you

If the Old Mill is indeed the 'official' watering hole of the Pumas, what an inspired decision ! I always think its a good idea to have the clubhouse as far away from the home ground as you can get it, afterall there are NO bars in the Alsancak area that would be willing to host an after match get together.

Seems to me that the mystery people who have made the Old Mill the 'official' home of the Pumas read these questions that I pose and choose to ignore them. Could it be that they know there is no logical reason to have a clubhouse so far away from the home ground and are unable to put together a post that sounds anything like reasonable. Their silence speaks volumes. Martin.

richb, surely you've got a answer for me and all the other people who are interested in the welfare of the Pumas. Or is the now a code of silence opperating ? If there is nothing to hide there should be a reply to a perfectly straightforward question. Martin.

Hi Mart, as you know I'm no longer on the committee so I'm not involved in making decisions. However, I would say that this geography thing is getting ridiculous. I feel that it's up to Chris Matthews on how he wants to market the Old Mill and if he decides to call it the 'home of rugby' then that's up to him. He was using that strapline during the Rugby World Cup to promote the Old Mill and the Pumas certainly have no input in what he says and to my certain knowledge we are not backing his claim. The Old Mill was well supported by the Pumas when it was owned by Sarah and Neil and I believe that Chris is continuing with that relationship. (If you remember they always had a Pumas scarf and other items displayed on the wall.) If you have a gripe then why not take it up through the proper channels and speak to Hakan. You've already had the Club Secretary Trevor's opinion on this as well as two of your team mates Sam and Simon. Richard

I think someone's run off with the balls.... and the venue.... and surely your point was rhetorical. you can hardly expect someone running a bar in Ozanköy to nominate one in Alsancak.... The hoo-ha over the watering hole is going on longer than the game.

The question of 'The Old Mill, the official watering hole of the Pumas' has still to be answered, who made it the 'official' clubhouse ? I would willingly discuss the matter with anyone who would lower themselves to call me. let me make this clear, I have no vested interest in any bar or businessin TRNC, all I want is openness with regards to the Pumas and the development of Rugby Union/league, not empire building and clique forming.
