There are so many lost , stray and dumped dogs on the forum, why not make a special page for this subject?

Many dogs are dumped by their owners for what ever reason, if we could show pictures of these dogs then someone here must know who the owners are. ? They may just have lived next door to you!

They should be confronted, named and shamed, this is happening far to often. Don't just blame the TC's cos i know for a fact its not just them!

If you bring a dog here or take one on, take it with you when you leave. Don't plead poverty, don't plead you have knowhere to take it, do the decent thing. The TRNC can't cope, KAR is not a dumping ground.

A dog is for life not just for Christmas.

I wonder how many people dumped their kids? Left them behind or just kicked them into the streets?

Imagine the newspaper headlines ' two year old lovable child dumped by parents due to starting a new life abroad'.

So why do it to a dog?

Seventy one views and only two people ready to stand up and be counted.

Where are all those animal lovers?

There maybe certain reasons why some owners cannot take their dogs back to the the UK. As most of you maybe aware there are lot of diseases (Leish etc) that preclude entry of these dogs into the UK. Such dogs have been taken in over here and and their lives have been prolonged by their owners spending a fortune on medication to ensure they live a better life so the only alternative is to have their loved dogs put down prior to departure back to the UK.

Please do not tar all dog owners with the same brush. I know of three dog owners that would love to take pets back to the UK and they are heartbroken about their situation.

If you had a special page for dumped/abandoned pets no one would read it, so self defeating...Or was that the idea?

Keep them on the main page so they have some sort of chance!

Blade, totally agree with you. If you don't intend having your dog for life, then don't get one.

a pet dedicated page would be a good idea, all domestic pets, give it a try, nothing ventured nothing gained!

The page wouldnt have to be about lost or stolen animals, the thread title would provide that info, any pet related threads would get my vote.

AJ, there is nothing in the pet export paperwork that tests for Leish!

To behonest my personal feelings are the same as those in the Roc, that the kindest thing to do would be to put the dog to sleep and out of its misery.

Leish can pass betweeen dogs, via blood and saliva, it can also pass on to people.

I have done loads of research on this and it can have a 7 year incubation period, even the tests we have here i am sceptical of. My friends dog this year clearly showed all the signs, but kept coming back negative. Two different vets, two different labs, still no clear diagnosis, sadly he was put to sleep.

I don't see any reason why when someone takes a dog on, they don't consider that that relationship is for life. What ever the situation. You have to take the good with the bad.

I am the same as Blade on this one. We have always said, and mean it, that if any of our 4 shows positive for Leish. they will be put down immediately. I have friends with dogs who totally disagree with me and think I'm terrible. However, as I've said to them I think they are being naive and selfish. Drugs available here will slow down the disease BUT the animals are still carrriers.. Some people I know will not have their dogs tested because they don't want to know and would prefer to be ignorant of the facts. BTW, sensible Vets here will put down a dog with Leish as they appreciate that in the long run it's the only way (without spending hundreds, may be even thousands of pounds on foreign drugs per dog) to erradicate the disease. Less sensible Vets will persuade you to keep buying drugs from them for years on end.

Message 3: The reason for so few posts is probably that some of us have pointed out until we are blue in the face that it can occur that people who adopt stray dog out of sheer kindness may fall ill and be quite inca pable of continuing to care for the dogs, let alone understake the expense and stress of taking the dog to (to the dog) a foreign country and deserve help and support not abuse. However after a while bashing ones head again intolerance, ignorance and lack of compassion becomes too painful and many may consider it best to ignore provocative posts.

Oh and if we have a special page for animals , please can we also have a special page for those who just want to vent their spite against their adopted country, so those of us who are distressed by the attitude can ignore it
