What are the advantages and disadvantages of building a Log in cabin than the usual house building?

I Northern Cyprus I would think there would be danger from fire in the hot dry summers? Having said that I've seen a couple of wooden houses out there and they seem to be ok. Suppose it depends where you're building it - wouldn't recommend the woods!

My friends have a log cabin here & are woken up at night by some kind of insect in the wood. they have tried all sorts of things to get rid of them, but nothing works.

What you stated is absolutely correct in regard to log cabin. Yes, the location would definitely matters; the wooden houses would be more suitable for places where natural calamities occur frequently.

I have knowledge of an American firm who supplies and builds log cabins anywhere in the world.

They send thier own team to the site but use local labour as well.

Their timber is pressure treated (either selcure or tanilise) and is also treated with a fire retardent.

The two that i saw them erect in Spain were very well built and would make a good home.

How the cost would compare with a traditionaly built house here I dont know but at least you would have it compleated.
