The residents of Bahceli and Esentepe organised their own rubbish collection along the coast and beaches, during the summer. In October the rubbish was still in bags awaiting collection. Maybe they actually got round to it but I think Pikey is more likely correct.

A process has started where the place is slowly starting to be cleaned. Along main Girne - Lefkosa road there was a lot of cleaning done by Belydyse recently. Couple of weeks there were men clearing rubbish along roads form Lapta through Karsiyaka

Becuase the education is slow to perculate through about litter people still deposit out of car windows, walking along street etc. This is not confined to Cypriots UK people are as guilty throwing cigarette ends out of cars, dropping plastic bags everywhere etc.

For me, the place is not that scruffy it is often part of the "let's knock TRNC" game. Yes it does need some cleaning and education but like everyting else - yavas, yavas. We will get there eventually.

It just seemed to me the town/harbour and the coast road from Girne to "Up Town Tatlisu" seemed to have had a spruce up.

When we were out in Sept , we def noticed area was cleaner from the East drive towards the acapulco , then on the left absoloute mess , has that been cleared away ?, you cannot miss it mounds of builders rubbish .. But well done to all of the councils good job , maybe it might be a good thing if they get thanked , would make a difference , as we moan when things are not right .

I live in Tatlisu and we made the same comment last weekend - the area has definately started to get a bit cleaner. Lets hope the clean up continues as this area, like the whole of the North, is beautiful.

Well some of the hospital waste, sharps and half empty drug vials that are washed up on Alagadi Beach have got Lebanese writing on them.... so I'm making an assumption that the TRNC is where the tides take it... or maybe the Lebanese take it all north on purpose... 'sweeping it under the carpet' so to speak...

I’m not normally one to moan on these boards, and in fact this isn’t really a moan, it’s just the way I see the situation. The Government, who are often criticised, have actually put in a lot of effort to try and clean up the Country… so hats off to them for that. However, until the Cypriots improve their ways, the Government are fighting a loosing battle. A short while ago I saw a man purchase an ice cream from Tempo Supermarket. He put it in a carrier bag, walked 10 feet to the outside of the shop and then proceeded to throw the bag AND the wrapper on the floor… and all this despite a bin being just 3 feet away. With this mentality they will never clean up their act I’m afraid!!!

The litter problem here has got worse over the last 10 years but I agree with Chicken Run. The locals don't see it as an issue and don't care about it in general
