anything with funny names and numbers at a hotmail address - just bin it! Definitely a scam which will inform you of some money awaiting to be collected by youy or some sad story from Africa of an orphan who recently had a relative dying and leaving behind millions. Guess what - you(?) are the chosen one! These usually ask bor your bank details to be handed over (like...), but even for you to respond for full details that will follow, usually asking for the bank details after a sad story. You might even get a nice looking black girl's picture attached (probably a bloke at the other end posing as one!)...

We've had a couple recently, one said 'your account with the Halifax' and the other 'your account with Co-operative Bank'. Luckily, they both came into spam and I deleted them without opening.

I've had these messages from "Halifax", HSBC and Lloyds. They look extremely realistic but all refer to checking my Internet Banking facility, which is interesting because I don't have any with these banks.

Even dodgy sounding emails from your friends should be binned if you are not convinced that your erudite friend would send an email with the subject ' stupendous open now' etc
