last year it was 200 tl - 250tl, muhtar's signature on form, passport copies of both buyer and seller and done at Lefkosa, maybe Girne can now do it but in the past they only had the forms. if a commercial vehicle you have to have a disclaimer if you want to use it for personal use and pay the KDV..

Places in Girne (behind hospital) and Lefkosa (left hand side near traffic lights on main drag unfortunately one way. ) are where one would tax a car

If you are buying the car, for goodness sake go to the Police Station to check there are no speeding or parking fines etc., on the car.

Just to confirm that you do have to go Lefkosa to change name on a log book. I asked in the Girne office today.

Good lord, I have absolutely no idea how you would go about ascertaining the legalities of that one. I must admit, there is a totally battered and broken down VW on some waste land and I'd "sell me grannies cat" to get hold of the number plate. In the UK it would go for tens of thousands. But then it would probably never be legal in the UK either.

Deniz1 did you have to have a copy of the seller's passport/kimlik?

car transfer cost 260TL (that is just over 10 ays ago).

Just go to the offices in Nicosia fill in the forms and pay the money,... dont forget to take pasports, car documents, insurance, tax papers and driving licence...

Remember both of you must be there to sign the transfer document...

Nicossia office staff trained to speak English... No problem... it took us 20 minutes at the most.

Remember to go Early to avoide delays...

good luck

It cost us 261TL on Thursday. You don't have to have both people there if you fill in the form and get your Muhtar or a Noter to sign but you need to take a copy of the seller's passport/kimlik. You also need 1.50TL stamps for the form.

Actually it's only 1TL difference and I was just pointing out that you can do it without the seller if you get the form witnessed.
