I am quite sure that everyone that has used the postal service in north cyprus has had one or two things to complain about. it sad that the servicing company takes the safety of the various valuable goods of those living on this part of the island for granted. Isn't it high time something is supposed to be done about this problem or do we just keep quiet and allow our emotions of anticipating for a delivery to be tampered with.

The problem unfortunately is not just in the unhelpful and lacadesical manner the officials treat the customers but also in the quality of service. What are the people of these island actually doing to make it better. i guess they all resort to having postal addresses on the greek side since they obviously have a stress free chance to do so. what then happens to the foreigners who are also contributing their quota here and cant have the choice to benefit from both sides of the island? it is really sad.

this is the kind of situation that drives some people crazy enough to take drastic actions out of annoyance. Since when do we have to wait for 6 weeks anticipation the arrival of a simple delivery from the UK? when asked about an explanation to a possible reason, the same officials act like we are bogging them and this is the same job they were emplyed for. It is high time something is really done because no one will know the value of the loss more than one who is directly affected. Cyprus should wake up. The world is moving forward and u are still trapped in ur past. its such a pity that all these is happening.

In 2008 it was the same and I imagine in 2018 it will be the same still.

10 Christmas Cards sent by myself from Girne Post Office to UK never arrived. 5 Christmas Cards sent by a Turkish Cypriot friend from Girne Post Office on the same day to the UK, arrived.

It's marvellous that copies of Cyprus Today that we subscribe to never go missing, nor did many copies of PropertyNC magazine never arrive. It makes me think there's something fishy going on in the Post Office itself.

As for incoming mail that was a joke too. Only ever received 2 Christmas or Birthday Cards in 4 years of living there, although I know that at least 20 pieces were sent over the years.

I echo Msg No 4 comments, I have a PO Box in Estentepe and in two years only 1 parcel from the UK has failed to arrive. I regularly send birthday cards back and have ordered items direct from Amazon that are delivered within 6-10 days.

Although I do advise family not to send anything too valuable and to send in a brown envelope

I have been advised that the key element to the address is: Girne, Mersin 10, Turkey, for Amazon you need a postal code, which when asked Amazon Customer Services supplied.

Good luck.

This is one of my bones of contention. What I find surprising is that all the state concerns are over populated in staffing and yet there is no real postal delivery system. Surely some of the excess staff in other departments could be transfered to the post office and become postmen. Then they would be paid for doing a job not for doing nothing. Four men came last week in a 4 x 4 truck to read my electric meter and a few days ago, two men on a moped came to deliver the free Lapta council newspaper, which I don't really want anyway, when it could be distributed to those who do require it, by simply putting it on the counter of the council payments office.

I'm always in fear and trepdication when I say this but actually we don't have any (or at least very few) problems with post. However, I always tell people never, ever put anything in cards i.e presents have to be either none or money transferred into banks. However, when problems were at there worst i.e. 4 or 5 years ago, we did have one Christmas with only 2 out of 30+ cards arrived and then NO birthday cards in June and July. Since then it's been good.

There is one thing that always makes me wonder. If I post an ordinary card or letter in Karaoglanoglu it costs me 80kurus. The very same item posted in Alsancak cost 1Lira. When I asked why, he said because it was further from Girne!!!

Reply to message 1 from a Cypriot, we do NOT have postal addressed on the Greek side, we just don't use the postal service. We rely on friends & family coming/going to TRNC to deliver cards and presents.

▶ No complaints here. Only ONE postcard from French relatives did not arrive - in eight years. All mail is delivered by our Alsancak mailman (on a moped) with a big smile. Well done TRNC postal delivery system!

I received a parcel today, posted 25 days ago in UK. The sender paid extra to have it delivered within in 7 day! Oh well, at least it arrived in tact.

The main problem with the postal system in the TRNC is that all post goes via Ankara and there lies the problem, as they let it all pile up untill they have a sack full to deliver to the TRNC. Parcels are even worse.!

My friend is the post mistress in our village in Wiltshire and she has told me there is no point in paying extra in the UK. If you do it will only cover the UK, once it leaves the UK it's anybody's guess, what will happen.

Last Monday I was in Famagusta and my husband called me(from Dipkarpaz) to say that our(very nice postman, also on a moped)left a piece of paper, saying we must collect a parcel from the main postoffice in Famagusta. I went there straight away. Had to pay a small amount and sign something. Four days later I got another piece of paper, telling me to collect another parcel, the offial stamp said 21.11.11. That means the parcel was there, when I called there last Monday. I now have to go again, 70km there and then back by bus. Not sure why this can't be done in Dipkarpaz.

We get our post from the Lefkosa office. No problems to report. Guy from village collects it on his way home, takes it to the market and if there is post the shop keeper calls us.

The only post problems we have ever had here is when we have had anything sent to us DHL.

Seems its hit and miss as to where you live. Post early is the option I suppose. I do all my Christmas shopping online for UK friends and family. I chose it and it's delivered to them, gift wrapped. Not quite the spirit of gift buying but at least they get them.

That said, my friend posted a 60th birthday parcel for me from Wiltshire to a friend in Scotland. The Scottish end was not there to receive it and it was sent to Belfast where it has not disappeared off the face of the earth... someone has a lovely pair of gold earrings!

Almost all postal problems are from Lefkosa, Just got train tickets ordered from Manchester Airport to Sheffield, took 5 days to get to lefkosa, 3 weeks to get to Tatlisu luckily need them for a week tomorrow. Same with christmas cards received, took 5 days to get to Lefkosa and 2-3 weeks to get from Lefkosa to Tatlisu. Suggest the TRNC Govt sort out a proper postal service!

At least here you expect problems with the post. In the UK Kent area we had a parcel sent to us, the sender was told don`t bother to send registered . Think it was sent recorded....................got swallowed up at the sorting office. never did get it.

Fortunately here, 99 % of our post has arrived. Last Christmas a couple of items went to Catalkoy post office instead of our post office box in Girne. But it still arrived.

Hi

Ive been reading all the posts and wondering what is the best way to receive post. I have only been here for a few months and the few people I have spoken to have told us that getting post here doesn't happen. Can anyone tell me if it is it best to have a P O Box? If so how do you go about getting one? I'm assuming you go to a post office do you have to get one in the area your living? Are they easy to get?

thanks

We have been awaiting a parcel delivery from the UK (in brown wrapping, address correct etc.) Called in at Alsancak Post Office, 2 days ago, to ask if they had any mail for us and there it was. Date stamp said Alsancak 22nd November, but no attempt had been made to deliver. Anyway we got the goods in the end.
