It would be good if someone close to Marian woudl ask her how best we can help. Noy charity, but repaying a little of what we owe her

Marion obviously needs some financial help I for one am prepared to help however someone needs to give some advice as to tax implications because the tax vultures will start to circle as soon as money starts to roll in.

Come on there must be someone on this board who can advise.

If she's coming back to England a fund could be started here, a good soliciter could take in money and put it in a high interest account, but then the Soliciter has to be paid!

How about offering her somewhere rent free to live? I know several posters who no longer live here who have places here which are unlikely to sell at the moment. Would it not be better to have someone caretake your place?

I offer my full support and services in UK for any proposals to start a fund.

Possibly a deposit trust account with for example HSBC who are UK and TRNC.

TRUST account for the benefit of TRUSTEE i.e. Marian.

Hello,

Not had any dealings with Marian Stokes,

read a lot about her, over the years, she's done much for many.

Very high profile, able at times to get things done,

all for no reward.

The situation she finds herself in is not self inflicted,

Many others will find themselves in a similar situation

in the not too distant future, due to unforeseen circumstances.

From Home Buyers Pressure Group, Cyprus

"It is largely due to the efforts of the HBPG and Marian Stokes that

the TRNC authorities opened a Property Complaints Office in April 2007."

If Marian Stokes has to leave this Island, who will replace her?

It may be better to be

up sh*t creek with Marion Stokes

than up sh*t creek without a paddle!

She seems to have more guts and determination than most.

Don't wait until it's too late!

Read post 1, support Nightmare.

It makes no difference to me whether Marian goes or stays,

but the TRNC could be a different place without her.

If there is someone to replace Marian Stokes, all well and good.

Good luck in your future Marian.

Hi Britvic,

Just felt I had to say something, not aimed at anybody.

I do admire what she's done.

I couldn't do it.

If she has to leave the Island, so be it.

But it's better to start something if possible now,

rather than wait till she's gone.

All she may needs is a healthy bank balance, for residency.

We were nearly caught out that way,

in the previous country we lived in.

But managed to sort things out.

From my point of view something needs to happen now.

Marian has never wanted remuneration for the hard work that she has undertaken in all the problems she has ever dealt with for others She has done so much for the ex-pat community how can we all repay her diligence and hardwork? She is also a very very proud woman too, and we have to respect her for that.

If, and I say if, she is prepared to receive remuneration, then I will make enquires with my firm to see how this can be done Free of Charge of course.

I don't think there are any Tax implications if you just 'gift' her the money.

One would need to set up an organisation with a panel. As we do in the UK for fundraising.

Employ Marian, give her set hours.

This organisation would have to be funded , source funds, it is so easy to say yes then back out after a couple of months.

This would just set Marian up to fail.

She is desperately needed in the TRNC but needs back up of a proper organisation, this would also protect her from suggestions of corruption and would also be needed to satisfy the Gov with regards to her residency in the TRNC.

It needs to be water tight for Marians safety so she can look after the needs of all us Villa owners in the TRNC.

As it is a business would it not need a LTD company, Need to find out all the facts about this. I am more than happy to do this, but surly someone has thought of this and is already investigating the possibility ?

An emergency property owners meeting by the HBPG is being held on Wednesday the 10th December 2008 at 12 noon in the Pia Bella Hotel, Girne to discuss the predicament surrounding property purchase, including:

non transfer of title deeds

borrowing against properties that you have paid for

exorbitant interest rates being charged for non-payment of loans

risk of eviction due to landowners non-repayment of loans

abandoned incomplete properties/sites

what happens in Court

lawyers negligence

Some buyers will give a brief summary of the pitfalls they have endured and what they are doing to find a solution.

Everyone is welcome to come along and join in, we all need to support each other.

This affects thousands of buyers here so if you want to support

Marian, the HBPG and all purchasers here, please attend.

I believe the first we can do is to all attend Pia Bella on wednesday, this would show Marian and the powers that be that we are all in this togehter in some way.

Even those that are all sorted who wish to show their support should attend.

I have said many times we are still guests in this country as far as influencing government and criticising the processes but we can still voice an opinion.

I would even go so far as physical protest in support of people like Marian.

If there is a concerted effort to support Marion, with her agreement, I would wish to offer whatever support is needed, within my capacity.

She is a remarkable lady, who has given tirelessly of her time and expertise to help others and

she deserves our support in her hour of need.

fs,

Please try to be a little more positive. There are an awful lot of Cypriot people who genuinly care about the predicament of many, not all of people with housing problems.

It is normally my role to be cynical and negative and even on this issue I do not hold out for too much. But if we do not try..........!!

OK so we agree with the need to offer Marian SUPPORT.

What about someone asking emailing the HPBG, as it is not just about Marian, I know this her plight we are concerned about but you can't give to one and not the others that would not be fair or right ask "if they all" as a pressure group need or are looking for support finacially.

And if we.... all Villa apartment owners in the TRNC.... can support them to support us.

Would not that be the first point of call.

I nominate Wynyardman, he has a wonderful way with words.

gillken,

I do not think that any form of "whip around" for anyone individual is appropriate and I am sure that Marian & Richard will not be very keen on the idea. Start one, where will it end?

We will be interested in the turn out and conclusion of wednesday's meeting and our hope is their is a mass concensus that we can all follow with clear conciensce.

Who said or mentioned a "whip round" I certainly didn't........I suggested to prepare a well organised organisation that will complement the work of the HPG were any funds available will go to this organisation to pay for the good work.
