Hi!

A friend of mine is going to purchase a property though Remax estate agency located in Kyrenia.

Has anyone heard of this company, is this trustful company? Any recommendations so far?

Thank you in advance.

Remax are a world wide company. I dealt with them in South Africa and found them to be very professional. What they are like in TRNC however may be a different story. As long as they haven't got the Cyprus Syndrome!

Remax is a franchise of the American Estate Agents. You can find info of the North Cyprus franchise here http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sizievlendiriyor.com%2Fabout.aspx

I translated it through Google. Also if you want info. on Remaz heres a link:

I have never dealt with them, but hope this helps a little.

Yes, I had one experience of them. They were not our agent, yet nevertheless brought viewers to our house.

It was a farce - they told the viewers that, if there were people at the house, we were only holidaymakers. Also, that they should not speak to us, as we didn't speak English!

As it happened, we were eating lunch on the patio, so the viewers were astonished to find us there, and to find that we were English. They left the man from Remax on the spot.

Goodness knows what that was all about, but it happened in 2007.

Hi.

I have used Remax to purchase my house, they were 100% very helpful and nothing was any trouble for them.

Still now after sale completed they still keep in contact with me.

Great agent.

Yes i know the people from Remax well.

They are marketing our house and doing a great job, always very efficient and profesional.

I also know them on another side as two of the ladies there kennel their dogs with us.

You won't go far wrong using them, they are straight forward decent people.

Remax has something to do with Right Move over here in the UK. Wether its just to use Right Move to advertise there properties or not I dont know. If you are worried about them it might be an idea to contact Right Move.

Husband and wife team allegedly, Husband Advocate, wife Agent. All I know of them.

I would be surprised if it were anything other than a franchise, as no one recognises the TRNC, do they?

To be fair they themselves point out that each agency is individually owned and run so there is no comeback to the Remax Corporation should anything go wrong... i.e. the umbrella organisation can't be called upon to rectify any problems... That said there seems to be plenty of positive recommendations here and I've never heard of any problems with them as an agent... but do your homework over the property in question as at the end of the day, it's that you are buying not Remax.

kaiserphil's experience sounds like poor communications rather than material deception.

I fail to see what the "reputation" of the Estate Agent has to do with property purchase. Are they not simply a shop window displaying the goods you wish to purchase? Since when have they held a responsibility to the buyer? They receive their wages from the seller so exactly whose interests will they be caring for?

The so called Estate Agents Law has more holes than a sieve and no one should rely on this to safeguard their purchase. In truth there is nothing you can do when purchasing property in the TRNC to guarantee you will buy safely. However there are things you are able to do to reduce the risks. One is to follow the guidelines from the HBPG and do your own homework. There is a list of things that you can check on their web site. Stick to the do's and don'ts, to deviate increases your risk.

Finally DO NOT use an advocate recommended by builder or estate agent. DO NOT buy off plan and DO NOT buy if seller does not have deeds.

Perhaps your time would be better spent investigating reputable builders, advocates and the TRNC buying process, because you need to be completely aware that Advocates have no duty of care and will only check what you ask them to, rather than check everything that really should be done to reduce your risks.

Having said all this, there is no guarantee of buying safely in the TRNC. You need to do this with eyes wide open. It's a complete gamble. The law will not protect you should you run into problems and there is no legal obligation for the seller to hand over the deeds even though you will have paid in full. So you may well join the many buyers that have paid for their property but don't actually own it. If this happens your developer can raise funds using your property as his assets. (memorandums are common)

Many have said, "don't buy in TRNC unless you can afford to lose your money"

Wise words indeed.

As far as I know Remax are the only Estate agents in TRNC who send their salesmen to Istanbul on a professional training course for training, before employing them to do the work in Cyprus. They are very professional, and I am yet to hear any financial loss by anyone who have either bought, sold or rented through Remax. I say GO FOR IT!

TRNCvictim; That is my opinion and advice! If you have something to say to the contrary please do so, and let us not play a game of "riddles". almost all posters in this post have talked in favour and the good experience they have had with this company in recent past...

As for training their staff in a major Remax centre in Turkey (which happens to be selling hundreds of millions of pounds worth of property all over Turkey every year) IT SURELY IS BETTER THAN THE USUAL EXPATS THAT COME OVER HERE TO LIVE AND INVEST IN ESTATE AGENCIES - Most of the ones I know, never had anything to do with being an estate agent before coming over here and possibly could not even spell an "estate agent"

Remax - FANTASTIC

EXCELLENT SERVICE and EXCELLENT SUPPORT in bad times.

We bought a house through Remax and suffered all the cyprus problems.

The ONE AND ONLY SUPPORT we received to get us through was REMAX.

They are

SECOND TO NONE in my view (that is after 6 years experience)

I bought my house by this company.I'm not happy at all. When we first visited the house we asked for some changes and the agent said the owner agrees and he would take care of things . As he was Turk,we couldn't speak to him directly so we trusted she was telling the truth...but when we signed the contract she denied everything..

I don't recommend them at all...

A very professional company. We also know a lot of people around us who have used them and have nothing but praise for the way they do things.

Highly recommended.

Particularly AYLEEN, they are the ONLY agent working with us to sell our house, very professional and reliable in our experience.

Would definitely recommend them
