when keano went to sunderland they were bottom of league ,well adrift .

he not only got promotion in year 1 ,he came up as champions .

why would sunderland fans expect to be in premiership never mind 2 seasons ?.

reading papers 4 months ago it suggested he would not play politics or commit to a longer deal than this season ,this angered his board to the tune of them actively looking for a new manager (last months press) .

so its no big suprise he has walked/sacked etc etc .he has questioned himself if he wants to be in management and also if he is the right man for the sunderland job ....pretty honest .

70million spent is a lot but sadly gurantess nothing ,yet being in the premiership now with tv money is 45million share .

all in all footballs is ruined by greed

Kav,

Did he fall or was he pushed.Got a lot of time for the guy.Maybe assistant to Alex would be the best move he could make,

Paul.

How can you have "a lot of time " for someone who by their own admission deliberately set out to maim an opposing player and succeeded in forcing him out of the game.?

Keane was no more than a thuggish player and would not have lasted 5 minutes with real hard men like Norman Hunter, Ron Harris, Tommy Smith and a host of others.

re 6 ,,

because keano admitted it and others didnt makes him more of a man i would say .

these so called hard men would not survive in the modern game ,fact .

today they are total athletes ,and yes spoilt as well .

the real hardmen are in folklaw and everybody claims to have seen them play etc but 30 years keano will be with them and the whole argument would be there again and again ....its different eras .

hi paul

dont know but would suspect he walked as mutual consent as him and big nial are big buddies with respect of each other (and neighbours lol)

kav

like they say theres only one keano

Gibbo,

So are you saying that Harris wasnt a dirty player then.Wonder why they called him Ron "chopper" Harris. And Norman "bitesYe legs" Hunter.Roy Keane was one of the best modern day british midfielders who would hold his own in any modern day team. His leadership of his team was second to none. The incident with Alfie haarland was regretable i agree but what ever happened to "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth".Wasnt it Alfie that started it anyway,

Paul.

Paul, he thought he'd taken the team as far as he could. One things for sure mate, it'll all come out when he's interviewed by the press cos hideing or lying isn't what he's about, thats if the press can catch up with him walking his dog!!!

John.

Paul, a bit sad mate to be honest, I thought that as a player he was a strong character and thought it was carried into his management career. Its been a tough time but we are not half way through the season yet and he should of carried on until christmas at least. I do genuinely belive that he has left for the good of the club as in a replacement has time to take stock and do his own thing in January. Thats if the board can get a replacement quickly. I also wonder if the new american shareholder has had a negative input. Anyway I'll be at the theatre of dreams on Saturday, a freebe from Travis Perkins, free seats food and drink and I'll still be betting with the heart for a 0-0.Wish me luck!!! Mad for it!!!!!!

John.

Dodger, no chance of that mate. When the time comes & inevitabley one day he will manage Newcastle, the only other 2 I think he'd consider would be Southampton or Blackburn.
