Firstly long overdue thanks to all who contributed to this, JK's Daren, sugarpuffbear, dizzycows, justwishing and many more that attended the fundraiser we had at JK's.

The state of play is now that i am in negotiations with a company in Turkey but have spent a long time researching them as it is not my money I am spending but yours! I have had someone on the Turkishliving forum kindly checking them out for me!

http://www.ostimmedikal.com/CompanyDetails.aspx?dataID=94&lng=en

When i approached them initially they did not have a 'training defib' but it should now be available so will telephone them tomorrow and if so will place an order. I apologise to the people involved in this initiative for my lack of communication recently but will be in touch soon.

Chris

p.s Thank you for your patience.

Thanks for the update.

Hope you manage to get the machines you were looking for.

Will you be having any training the same as was mentioned on the other thread?

I must say that having listened to an excellent programme on Jeremy Vine last week concerning the use of defibrillators in public places I am a convert to the cause. They demonstrated (on the radio) that these things dont require training as they tell you every step of the way what to do. They analyse the patient to decide whether to shock or not ie: you dont want to to shock them if the heart is still beating. The machine does it all. It described placing the pads as you would position a car seat belt - one high on the shoulder and the other lower down on the opposite side. The end result was that so many lives could be saved if one was used. Well done Chris

Yes Well done Chris.

All in the know understands a project as important as this takes time to sort out and Chris is demonstrating how to research throughly in the correct way.

Post 4 - i can fully understand the research etc. that must go in to purchasing life saving machines - worse that it is being done in a foreign country.

You obviously are ' in the know' as you state so I am glad that this is not being left to one individual to try and sort out with all the problems that may be involved.

Well done to the both of you for all you are doing

Post 3 - fully agree - they are simple now adays

As far as I can gather Chris (NurseAwful) has tried very hard to get a good price and "local" backup service.

Now it's up to who can be trained and who wants to help. Rota's etc. so please contact her if you can or would like to assist (she might have enough volunteers but I doubt it). trnchealthcare@gmail.com

Post 4 - sorry if I mistook it that you were involved with nurseawful. You post said

" All in the know understands a project as important as this takes time to sort out " which I read as you were in the know and therefore involved.

Anyway, best of luck to all concerned in negotiating a good deal and getting the numbers of machines you were hoping for both east and west sides.

Hope you get plenty volunteers to take part in the training also

I wish to support Chris here.

She has contacted me several times and I have come up with the best UK prices, but she has also contacted many other people trying to get the best deal, sussing out servicing, battery and pad replacements. Checking which language they give instructions in etc.

She has devoted a great deal of her busy life to do this for everyone and deserves a big thank you.

I believe the machines will be ordered very shortly now.

Thanks Chris.

Liz Msg 15 - Chris is still in what is a major transaction with money donated by many people (including us at IAH) so you cannot ask her to divulge (not just to you but to people she is in negotiations with) her commercial information.

She is trying (for no pay) to help everyone and get a good deal so be a little patient.

You may not realise that she gives up much of each day (in her retirement) to help expats and locals - thus her husband and family see little of her. Thank her don't castigate her!

steps426,

I sent you an e-mail last night please check and see if it has gone into spam! And as for getting AED's at £100 it will be peoples lives you would be playing with so I think not! I also give a link which included the name of the company all you had to do was google it, and you would have got the price!

steps426 - There is 4000TL in the kitty - see msg 2 in this link

http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/77771.asp

That is £1500 - £1600 depending on exchange rate.

Taking a training machine at £300 (approx') that leaves £1200 - £1300.

Therefore 1 machine at......

2 at £600-£650

3 at £400 +

etc.

Then again, transport costs, customs duty and all the other payments will cut these amounts down.

Not an easy task to undertake I would imagine with all the probable red tape that goes with a project like this. The best of luck to all involved in organizing this.

Steps 426.

Chris has been open about all this, but obviously no firm wishes to see what discount they are offering out in the open. That is the reason she has had to be discreet in her dealings but has notified several people who have donated of what is happening. I am sure she will keep you up to date if you care to donate which will support the local community at the same time.

How about training to use the machine as well ?

Any update as it is now quite a few months since this started?

1.When will all 3/4 machines be in place?

2.How many have 'volunteered' to be trained in these?

3.Who is to be maintaining them?

4.Locations please???

5.Who do you call for one??

Original post said they were contacting supplier 'tomorrow' - dated 11/12. Also said 'will be in touch soon' - Well!!

Anyone one out there know??

Think some thing like this that could affect us all, not just one person, so I am very grateful for all the hard work done by the few ...

Think things are nearly there by reports etc, but do appreciate that over the xmas period every one has other things to contend with, so hold 'yer horses' tania, ....

Demanding!!

Well, if asking a few straight forward questions is demanding, then I suppose I am.

Defibs are a subject I rate very highly for personal reasons which I do not wish to go into.

This initiative is great and everyone involved in the providing of these for these areas is to be applauded.

However, whilst over in Cyprus, I have heard this subject being raised on more than one occasion in different bars and in different company about both Lapta and Esentepe defib appeals.

Rather than believing the rumour mongers - of which there are plenty - I simply want to know the facts. Is that demanding?

Sorry for being so blunt, but a subject like this that could help a lot of people should not left to slide away in to the background.

Surley owing to the fact that the questions you have asked relates to a volunteered project and no planned time scale has been set.

So would it not have been more polite to ask for a simple update from these volunteers ?

Could I also ask you join in with me to thank Chris and her supporters for the wonderful efforts she continues to give to the community ?

over to you tania

Tania, most as Pipie says are doing it voluntary, perhaps you should get over to NC and help if you want an answer and a defib that fast!!

Think you are being unreasonable to expect those actually involved with the hard work to be sat at the computer with the answers over the xmas period!..... they too have a life !!...

Happy New Year any way tania...

Tania,

As pipie and dizzycows have pointed out I do have other things in my life and I am trying the best I can to keep costs down and check out that this company and their product are reliable!
