Never before has this happened to me. Must be the credit crunchie.

Went into the Sports Bar today, Walsall Town Centre with a colleague for lunch break from our hearing. I ordered a hellumi/roasted veg wrap, fries and salad at a cost of just £4, and was told FREE coffee with meal and top ups! A bargain, good service and the food was well nice too.

Now why can't they do that in NC? Instead of raising prices all the time, give the consumer a freebie. Pretty soon, word will get around and custom will increase. Good for the proprietor, good for the customer.

Hi Kay,

We were out for a drive, in TRNC, last year, stopped in a seaside cafe/bar for a coffee, it came in in chipped cups with saucers that didn't match, served by under 10 year olds. 5 ytl per coffee, will never go back there. :-(

Navek - see what I mean?Oh a tourist, lets think of a number and double it, and see just how much we can get away with?Wrong tack.If you had experienced a really good service, coffee etc., then, if you are like me you would have told everyone you knew to go there. As it is, you now tell everyone NOT to go there. May have had a fast 10YTL, and no doubt more from unsuspecting tourists/p/t residents, but not a regular income.

Today I was pleasantly surprised. I do not usually go to Walsall for work, and the last time I was there I ate in the same place - 3 months ago.It was awful, expensive, and had to wait so long, which if you have to get back to Court for 2pm means that you are permanently clock watching! Does nothing for the indigestion! I was so impressed with everything today (BTW it has changed hands), I took a menu and pinned onto the Advocates Notice Board in the Solicitors Room with my comments.Hopefully they will get some business.

Some in NC have got it all wrong

We have been a few times to the Antique Restaurant at Esentepe, excellent attentive service, prices are very reasonable and each time we were offered coffee and brandy on the house after our meal.

I do agree though that some places only see you as a victim, they just don't seem to get the concept of repeat custom.

We have understandably seen some of these sort of places close down in the 2 years we have been visiting NC

Kay,

We are offered free coffee and local spirits on a regular basis at many a local restaurant... and so is Navek... as he will no doubt confirm.

As he says, when you get ripped of for a simple cup of Nescafe (let alone a cappuccino or a mocha) then you don't get the inclination to go back or recommend the establishment... as many of them go out of business on an almost daily basis this is no wonder... they have not got their business plan right.

Coffee World who specialise in lovely fresh coffee in all the different modes are, I think, the purveyors of a quality product which they roast on the premises, and which dare I say "is the best in the TRNC". We do treat ourselves to this delight on occasion... they also do very tasty cakes... so I'm told, you understand... er um... OK my pants are on fire.. I know they are nice...

When you go into a cafe that calls itself Coffee World you have to expect to pay for it... it is a very large cup of the most delicious coffee..

I find most Restaurants here give free coffee and Brandy/Liquer after a meal with top ups if required. I do agree though that some of them attempt to rip off tourists ( and not just Restaurant's either). I think the T.C. businesses in general have changed in the last 10 years as regards prices for Foreigner's, and I don't mean for the better. It does help if you can speak and order in Turkish in my experience but that shouldn't be the case

There was a Restaurant in Ozankoy that published and circulated a menu/price listhere a while back with Turkish on one side and English on the other. Same food ,different prices.I passed this on to someone to take action as it is actually supposed to be illegal. The Restaurant in question was no longer operating shortly after

batterboy58. We have been to the Antique restaurant for Lunch a couple of times. Excellent service and the owner is a really nice guy. I had a game of football with his son in the car park - he loved it.

I pretty much only drink Turkish coffee here as they make it better and its better value (as they say when in Rome do as the Romans do). In Esentepe most places charge only 1 YLT including glass/ container of water or in Girne most are between 1.5 to 2YTL.

The few expressos or long blacks I have had here have been expensive and disappointing and philosophically I find it hard to justify buying Nescafe when out, when all you have to do is shove in a spoon of it and add boiling water.

Turkish tea is usually even cheaper.

Having said this will try Coffee World one day to compare
