Is there a decent Fish restaurant that also has a good alternatively menu.

Preferably the Catalkoy side but will travel if worth it.

Congrats on your run etc,, "Quality Fish" in the Eastern Med is almost non existent so unless you fancy a trip to the north Atlantic ,you are out of luck...Northern France is your best bet for GREAT fish and Shellfish, but it's a bit of a RUN back .........

Sorry, that was the one we tried.

An experience not to be repeated.

@ msg 1, LooseBoots: I don't expect specialised fish restaurants* to have great alternatives also (only my opinion). But there ARE some good fish restaurants "East of Girne".

Unfortunately three of them are too far away from the place where I live to visit after a last minute decision to go out and eat fish.

I'll send you an email with details and believe me - you won't be sorry!

* Don't believe msg 3, the man, as he said in another post, doesn't like it here anyway.

Wrong DC , I don't like the limited choice of Fish here , so do try to be less confrontational...Please!..After all , we are not all the same , and some of us know "GOOD" sea food from "BAD",at least give me credit for coming from a place where sea food is exceptional...

@ msg 9: I've had the "Captain's plate" in St Helier on Jersey and had fish on Guernsey (what was that village called?), but that's not the point. You keep telling us how great nature, fish and what have you over there are - but that doesn't help people who are looking for a good fish menu HERE. Indeed, you are exceptional. WE are only living and enjoying TRNC, where good fish meals can be had. Signed: someone from a tiny country where they also know all about fish.

Imo a meal in a fish restaurant in Northern Cyprus should start with fish mezze (10-15 plates) followed by a (non-farmed, non-frozen) fresh* fish from around the island or the Turkish/Lebanese coast. I've uploaded the varieties of such fish (Turkish names and the best season to eat them) more than once on this board, but here they are again:

▶ [ http://www.allcrusades.com/CD/bb_webpages_05/02_fish/tekst_1.html ].

* There are several fish restaurants (at least one West and four East of Girne) where the owners have their own fishing boat(s), guaranteeing you fresh fish. They often offer "the catch of the day" and I've always taken such advice. A fine fish - again only my opinion - is Barbun.

N.B. I reply to msg 1 - I don't think it was LooseBoot's intention to obtain advice about "superb fish restaurants" outside the TRNC.

Not necessarily at this time of year but, when spring arrives and you fancy a trip out for the day, go and try one of the fish restaurants in Latchi on the Greek side. Using the Yesilirmak crossing, it will take a couple of hours to get there depending upon where you live here. On a nice day it's a lovely trip with superb scenery and very little traffic. Latchi has a number of really excellent fish restaurants with a great choice of locally caught fish. How is it that they have so much fish? Since RoC has been in the EU, there is a fisheries protection vessel stationed in Latchi harbour. So, no over fishing, no undersized fish being brought in and the fish stocks have recovered very well according to the locals. Recommended: Souli Hotel Restaurant down on the beach, Y & P overlooking the harbour and Baths of Aphrodite Restaurant, just the other side of Latchi but with amazing views. Plenty of others but can recommend these.

i love sitting in the harbour , waiting for the trawlers to come in , and watching them unload box after box of fresh fish , the skipper always gives you a couple of cod , if you pull the trolleys to the weigh room , alas , that was port seton , and i'm dreaming again
