Would it not have been better to divert this money to cleaning up the beaches and making them more accessible? Putting showers on beaches like the rest of the Med that they will be competing against for tourists? Preventing any further deterioration to many of the historical buildings and landmarks that are dotted throughout the North but are sadly disappearing?

Spending more on Famagusta and Girne centre to encourage these delightful and important areas to thrive and give an atmosphere that is sadly lacking?

Why is it always another hotel or row of empty shops? How exactly does this improve the island? To me it merely waters down hotel occupancy and we all know, despite what the Government might be saying, the demand is not there. More casinos just make it more like a sunny Blackpool.

One has to ask, does this approach benefit the TRNC and TC's or Turkey and Turkish citizens?

The true beauty of the island is what tourists want to see not more blots on the landscape.

Its off shore corporate money not government money, i have read an american company called kraus and manning to plan to build up to 12 new hotels in north cyprus over the next ten years. Also many companies are geared up to build all the big franchises when the cyprus situation is sorted out, carrefour, mc donalds, burger king, debenhams, it will be a concrete jungle soon, and it will need to be to keep up with job demands for all the europenas who will be moving in soon, or turkish.

Be asured of one thing, organisations and individuals that invest these sorts of sums are connected at the very top, they don't speculate in an area where Stavros may come knocking. All investment of this type shows more and more confidence in an eventual outcome, and the knock on effect will in time be higher house prices and demand.

Take a look at the hillsides alng the coast, with the odd small village or two, then look at a similar scene in Spain/Portugal, that is how it will probably look in 20 years once the condifence to buy returns, and it will. Anyone naive enough to think it won't, look historically at the UK market, it has boomed and bust 3 times in the last 30 years, and each time every one says people must not borrow too much, and again they do. It will all repeat.

Certain aspects of the front page report about the four hotels in Cyprus Today published yesterday, are lacking in clarity! Two of the hotels are intended to be built at Lara beach. The other two proposed locations ARE NOT at Diana beach, or vaguely near it. The statement that the landscape pictured is due to change is utter rubbish. The view in the pictures will not change at all.

The first of the two hotels will be sited beyond Villa Firtina travelling East. The second hotel will be on the coastline to the right of the earth road which passes Diana beach entrance. Presumably, the Ambassador's residence is on present showing a military area, but it lies between the proposed hotels,

When approached by the Sailing Club, Sailing Principal, Cyprus Today admitted that they chose photographs from their existing library. Thus we have all been somewhat misled don't you think? Chris C.
