You all know the problem with mail not arriving here from UK. My mother has been particularly upset because we have not received birthday and anniversary cards from her. So she is starting her own bit of action. We have found the post office web site - http://www.postoffice.co.uk and there is customer relations address and letter is on its way. Post Office® Customer Care FREEPOST PO Box 740 Barnsley S73 0ZJ It costs nothing other than paper and envelope, so how about getting your friends and relatives to have a go too. Obviously we keep no record of dates of posting etc, the are "just" cards and you expect them to be delivered. So why are they not doing so??

Cyprusishome My family have contacted the Main Post/Sorting Offices in London many times, they always say the problem is this end, well they would wouldn't they, but I have had no mail in 4 years except official letters which seem to get through. That address you give on the forum is that for just your area Barnsley, or the whole of the UK. I agree we must do something NOW smithy

It is the UK central customer relations address. There is an e-mail address on the web site but I always think things like this need to be done on hard copy they are harder to loose. That is why I suggest that as many people as possible bombard the place. We original thought of the local offices but that is just "local managers" who can easily fob off one or two letters. Where as a central place would receive everyone. Unless of course the are not received!!!! If none sensical replies recieve the my parents have a very good MP who is very responsive.

BTTT Surely some people are concerned enough to try to bombard the post office CR in UK. If we do not try then nothing will ever be achieved. Sending individual letters to each sorting office will never work. So come on folks lets give it a go.

Its not just problems from the UK, l have had two parcels from Australia go missing over two years but an 'Ausy' parcel to UK arrived ok. I am presently waiting (6 weeks) for small parcel from UK. I have sent parcels to Ausy, the States and Canada from here (Reg.post) no problem. Could the problem be MERSIN, before the post gets here!!!

Guys You must pursue your grivancies in your own way but it is far more likely to be a problem outside the UK than in it don't you think> Paul

Paul, I think 90% of us now agree that the problem is in the UK. There has been much discussion of the 3 years we have been here and there is little reason to believe that the problem is here or in Turkey. Think about it we send packages out of here with never a problem.

There was a perfect comment by Tom Roache in last weeks column which we have utilised but also lifted half a dozen quotes from this and other forums as part of our letter. Will not quote here because it is better if each letter is different. So please people let us try and get the UK post office to acknowledge there is a problem with post from there to here, it is their responsibility at the end of the day as far as I am concerned.

david, Much as I commend your action I fear Royal Mail will repeat their response that the thefts are not taking place in the UK. On the balance of probability it has to be Turkey or north Cyprus and I think that was the consensus the last time this subject was raised. I certainly don't agree thatn 90% of people mthink the problem is in the UK, where consumers have protection and Royal Mail has its own detective branch. Mersin 10 and onwards is where criminality, corruption and unaccountability really takes off.

just a thought, try addressing the post from the uk, to a turkish surname at your address. then see if it arrives. then you will have a better idea of whats going on. i can't figure this out, because we have no problems with mail at all????

Afraid I have to differ Pt Pike. Ask the question - how many GC work in sorting offices in London area where all mail to here passes through. It is grossly unfair to single out Turkey & TRNC as a problem. I am now on holiday for 2 weeks!!

I personally have had non delivery of mail posted in Sweden,Australia, New Zealand, United States and the U.K. so I don't think the Mount Pleasant sorting office would have had anything to do with such a diversity of locations. Let's look a bit closer to home. I have on various occasions tried to contact a relevant authority in the TRNC and Turkey and as yet have not even had the courtesy of a reply!

Talking this morning to someone who with a small group have done the complaints thing and got nothing. So they have now gone to their MP's and getting some feedback. What is needed are lots mor MP's with letters on their desks. I know some are a waste of space but our own experience has always been positive. No need to guess where their focus of attention is. Come on, get all those relatives and friend in the UK to send a letter to the MP at House of Commons, London. SW1. Only takes 5 minutes to type a letter and a loan from the bank for a stamp.

I have been led to believe that any mail posted in a brown envelope and with a typed address always makes it to the TRNC from the UK. Try it and see what happens. AJ

kaiserphil Fair enough - I thought I was just feeding Dozza the punchline! We don't seem to get anything in the way of cards from the UK now, just 'brown' mail - we used to, until about 18 months ago. Perhaps the miserable bast@rds have just stopped sending us cards! ;-) Keith.

To my knowledge, the mail has been adrift for the last 25 years, so what's new? Mount Pleasant sorting ofiice has always got the blame, but I think it is much closer to home than that. We are always visitors to Kibris no matter how long you have resided here, so sometimes it is better to make alternative arrangements about your mail, and just try and ignore the irritations here. I never have anything sent through the mail to Kibris, just accept it does not get here.

I live in Girne, and I have never received any mail except official ones from HSBC in 4 years, I would love to share a post box with some one who would'nt mind, and who receives mail that is. If we are saying its the UK how come if you have a post box it gets through, I wish we were back to the stage coach days as that got through even with Indians shooting arrows at you. Smithy

I believe that the main problem lies in TRNC, I live and work in the Far East and have done for several years now. During the last several years I have lived in several countries out here and I do get my mail quite as my daughter forwards it to me to wherever I am based and working, this includes, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam Korea and Indonesia. All were posted in the UK and were delivered successfully, some took a little longer than others but they did get to me. I'm quite sure that the Royal Mail is more secure than quite a few other postal services. Cheers, Alex.

| Hi We have had a post box in Girne for over 5 years firstly it was just a few cards that did not arrive but in the last 2 years we have not received a single card or personal letter at all. I do not know what enquiries the BRS have made but what about doing a proper survey collating info as to approx when posted & where from it cannot be too difficult to check at the various stop off points if the mail is being stolen or not i.e. CCTV cameras, checking waste bins? | We have had our post box in Girne for 25 years, and no personal mail , (handwritten address) for the last 4 years. If it were possible to put a tracking device in a letter, it might get as far as Kibris. Probably this would be too expensive. |

Louthlass I was discussing this problem with a friend in London recently, he was explaining the use of tracker devices for the elderly and I mentioned could it be possible to get a small tracking device and put it in an envelope. the problem appears to be the size of the battery to power the tracker. It would have to activated on an on off situation and the chances the battery would not last too long, unless anyone knows differently. Cyprusishome just suggests that the problem just lies within the UK, perhaps he should start pestering the Post Office in Nicosia as well.

The key here is not to use any word of Cyprus when your mail leaves for the UK. The word Cyprus should never be used at all. So Remember if posting to Girne Name Surname post box details Girne Mersin: 10 Turkey Never ever write North Cyprus, or Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus or either the TRNC. Always use the Turkish names, for example for Kyrenia we use Girne. Everything is Turkifield in TRNC. If you start putting north cyprus or turkish cyprus or kyrenia or famagusta it could be directed to the South. If I was in your shoes, I would try to find out if there are rental box hires in Nicosia, South Cyprus and just rent it an mail box. If thisthing does not exist then use 1st recommendations. Good luck, London Cypriot

London Cypriot People living here have been using the 'no Cyprus' method for yonks... it still does not work... We have taken to getting the name of the person Turkified as you call it to see if that works... What we really need is a UK hub to take delivery and parcel up the letters and get them sent in one big parcel once a week to a reliable destination for distribution... but it's just a pipe-dream I guess...
