Hi Max

Great selection ...

I was fortunate to see Earl Thomas/Paddy Milner's Big Sound perform 'I'd Rather Go Blind' at Bronte Blues Club (www.bronteblues.com ) three weeks ago ...the audience was spellbound for 12 minutes (unlike the noisy bunch on this video from Paris)

Sadly, I understand Etta James is now very ill suffering from dementia, kidney failure and leukemia ...her doctor declared her terminally ill only today.

The inclusion on your playlist is a timely tribute.

Riddles, I didn't know about Eta James, I agree with you she's has a great voice (although unfortunately I have never seen her sing 'live') and one of my favourites recorded by her was her classic, Tell Mama.

Hi Max

I was fortunate enough to play on the same bill as Clarence Carter way back ...he sang 'Tell Daddy,' which he'd co-written and released as a single in 1966 ...Etta picked it up the following year and, naturally, changed 'the hook' to 'Tell Mama'.

The 'b-side' of her single was the classic -'I'd Rather Go Blind' which (strangely, since Clarence had been blind from birth) he covered in 1969.
