Can I make you an offer to help with paying the bills, buying Christmas presents, towards a special treat for you or the loved ones or just to boost the bank account?

Bring your old gold to me and I will give you CASH. It doesn't matter about it's condition or karat, gold is gold and it's worth something so don't let it sit around your house collecting dust. While the price of gold is good, why not get some money for it?

You can bring it to me at Chateau Lambousa market on Saturday mornings, Pine Bay market on Sunday mornings or Açmenya restaurant market on Thursdays 11-3. Or, if you have a lot and don't want to have to carry it on you to market, give me a call and I'll arrange to come to you - 0542 878 5442.

Turtle, just to add for you, please note that you asked about the price of gold. The price I gave you was the current (at the time) price for gold - pure gold. To work out the price for your particular Karat, multiply the price by the value of the Karat (ie, 9/24 for 9K, 18/24 for 18K etc). Price today is £33.13. Hope this clarifies a little for you.

No, that's the price of gold, regardless of what form it is in.

Pippie - it's probably me being dense, but I still don't quite understand your pricing for gold. I sent a few broken bits and pieces off to Tesco Gold Exchange a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly, it was only 9c, and they offered me around £11.00 per gramme. Whilst I appreciate that they may not be the best place to exchange your old gold, there is still a vast difference (as Turtle pointed out) between the modest £11.00 ish they were offering and your quoted price of around £33.00. Obviously, the higher the carat, the higher the value, but still.

As I said, it's probably me being stupid

You are absolutely right Jeannie I can't get my head around this one ?

My son has just got rid of his bits and bobs also 9c and got £11.50 a gramme so I suppose the question is ..... Are you offering £33 per gramme for scrap 9c gold ? If so people should dip their bread happy days

It is not that complicated.

The gold price, pure gold, 24 Karat gold is £33.00

For 9 Karat gold take the pure price and divide it by 24 and then multiply by 9. (33/24)*9 = 12.375

For 18 Karat gold take the pure price and divide it by 24 and then multiply by 18. (33/24)*18 = 24.75

So the price you were getting in the UK, of 11.50 to 12 pounds for 9 karat is in the right ball park, once comission / profit is taken in to account.

Pippie are you saying you are buying gold at the spot martket rate ? If not can you explain what your comission is or how much under the current market rate you are paying ?

No Turtle, as I said earlier, the price I gave you was the current (at the time) price for gold - that is pure gold, which is the quoted market price that I work base my calculations on day by day.

To work out the value of your gold you need to multiply the current price by the value of the Karat (ie, for 9K you would divide 9 by 24, 18/24 for 18K etc ...).

You also need to remember of course that this is the value of the gold. The value will often be very different to the 'price' you will be offered if you wanted to sell it, depending on who you were selling it to and what they planned to do with it.

So just to clarify from your post no 1

You are offering about £12 per gramme for scrap 9c gold and the current price for pure gold is about £33 per gramme. ?

When I asked in post 4 ( i appologise i did'nt make myself clear) I assume the majority of people will have 9c to sell and thats what I was fishing for,...... sorry for the confusion.

Pippie does not seem to be saying at what price she will buy gold relative to the spot market price, at least as far as I can see.

Again Pippie can you not just say at what price you will buy gold relative to the market price ? So say the market price is 33.00 (12.375 for 9k, 24.75 for 18k) at what price would YOU pay for the gold ?

And people complain about Cypriot shops not displaying their prices !

Don't give me chance to answer will you Erolz? I am actually working in between looking at the forum you know!

Yes Turtle, you are right, that's the method I use to work out the value of gold. I gave a formula rather than a price per Karat so that anyone on here can work out what they've got for any Karat. I've received all sorts of Karats out here, 9, 10, 12, 14, 18, 22 so I thought it best I didn't make any assumptions what you had.

Erolz I can't tell anyone what I would definitely pay until they bring it to me to check it out first hand. Each case is a unique one, there may be an instant when something is not scrap and holds more value than the customer first thought for example.

So what do you pay for gold, not the potential value jewlery wise, but just the gold value? You must have a formula relative to the market price for such gold. Why can you not just say what it is so people can compare your price with other buyers ?

Maybe I am being unfair but it does feel to me that you are reluctant to say what you will pay for (scap) gold relative to the current market price and being the old cynic I am that makes me suspicious. Sorry.

Sorry Erolz but I cannot do that I'm afraid. I see where you're coming from but as I said, each case is different, for example yesterday I was offered a foreign coin for which I needed to do some research beforehand. I need to see a piece before I can value it. Best thing, if you're unsure is for you to do is take your piece to someone who is willing to buy it and get a price from them, then come and see me to see if I can do any better for you.

I'm sorry it's not more black and white for you.
