Whilst I don't condon any kind of "rage" and havn't wit'nesed, been involved, lets look at the reason why.

Your local airport no longer goes to your destination, so you travel 5 hours for your 8am flight, you have to be their by 6am, you have set out an hour earlier, just in case.

You arrive at the airport, and get the only Steward/Stewardess, who nit picks about the extra 1kg in your luggage,

The flight is then delayed for absolutely no reason whatsoever, 2 hours later on the plane, your 6ft.3 companion realises they haven't been given the "extra room" they have paid for, already distraught, and with reciept in hand, suddenly they find a seat with "extra room", the rest of us are packed like chickens!

Finally sat in your seat, book in hand, and barely able to keep your eyes open, you find your sat in front of a bored child who has nothing to do, because this airline, doesn't show films anymore, so you get kicked in the back all the way!

Too civilised Paul, besides it's not the kid's fault when they are so bored, 10 hours, they've played card's coloured in,etc... Nothing much left for them to do.

I am a really nervous flyer, and once on a flight to Cyprus, the passanger next to me had a panic attack!! that was quiet scary, thought they were having a heart attack! All they had to do was breath into the sick bag!

Hi Rose,

Never thought of that.I stopped 4 years ago so that could be one of the reasons why i am never at ease.I still think that there are certain areas where you can have a drag though,

No meals on the flight to keep stressed people busy either... hungry travellers = irritable travellers...

Me, I just read my book and chill...

except for the that fatty, sweaty, coughing, iPod wearing git next to me keeps adjusting his position and pushing me aside and taking up my space.... right I'm going to get the plastic knife I brought ontp the flight and stick it right up his left nostril and see if he likes it......

Ah... that's better...

Oh... I've woken up and we are touching down....

Air rage will go up 100% when you get the idiots using mobile phone sat next to you and you trying to watch video.

As for over weight luggage, you know the rules, like making excuse of 2 miles over speed limit and caught by camera. We always weigh our cases before leaving home.

CIH..If you see any one using a mobile phone whilst the plane is in the air ,rep0rt them to the cabin staff immediately. If you dont there is arisk he could interfere with planes electronic equipment, which will put all lives at risk.

Vicki..If everyone on the plane took an extra 2kgson average that would increase the planes wait by nearly 3/4ton,burn more fuel than needed, less profit for airline, when that happens they jack up the seat price...

I have heard but not from an authortive source that the mobile phone upsetting the equipment thing is not true. I definately saw a report of a new way to channel the signal that was allowing people to use phones on American flights already.

I shudder at the thought of it becoming widely available as it is a good reason to turn the thing off for a bit!

Msg 18, I think the point was lost on the over weight luggage, the point being, when you book your flight they don't ask how much you weigh.

One day at a busy airport, the passengers on a commercial airliner were seated, waiting for the cockpit crew to show up so they could get under way. The pilot and co-pilot finally appear in the rear of the plane, and begin walking up to the cockpit through the centre aisle. Both appear to be blind. The pilot is using a white cane, bumping into passengers right and left as he stumbles down the aisle, and the co-pilot is using a guide dog. Both have their eyes covered with huge sunglasses.

At first the passengers do not react; thinking that it must be some sort of practical joke. However, after a few minutes the engines start revving and the airplane starts moving down the runway.

The passengers look at each other with some uneasiness, whispering among themselves and looking desperately to the stewardesses for reassurance.

Then, the airplane starts accelerating rapidly and people begin panicking. Some passengers are praying, and as the plane gets closer and closer to the end of the runway, the voices are becoming more and more hysterical. Finally, when the airplane has less than 20 feet of runway left, there is a sudden change in the pitch of the shouts as everyone screams at once, and at the very last moment the airplane lifts off and is airborne.

Up in the cockpit, the copilot breathes a sigh of relief and turns to the pilot, “You know, one of these days the passengers aren't going to scream, and we're gonna get killed!”

Clearance has already been given by some airlines to use mobile phones in flight. Afraid this is a fact.

I believe it may already be possible on US and certain European airlines, so look out for the air rage!!!!! Certainly in US there is already in seat telephones for use of passengers, with CC of course.

As for msg 17 - on flights we always arrive within the requisite luggage weight and it hacks me off to see people turning up with huge cases and whinging cos they get charged.

As with any rule if you break it then you have to pay the consequence. Rule 1, do not get caught, with luggage you always will be.

Well most of the airlines I fly with do not allow mobiles whilst the aircraft is airborne. Some of the US airlines do allow you to make phone calls but these are not on your mobile .Theyhave special hand sets that plug into your seat and use the a/c radio systems.

Harold..The "shielding" for mobiles is onlystarting to come in withthe newer aircraft...

coachie,

I wish I had note of all the articles but I am sorry to say it is fact and you will have to put up with it or not as I am sure most of us will not.

It is now disproven that mobiles cause any interference. Maybe it is a ploy to encourage people to fly with an airline.

CIH.. fly with Thomson,First choice Monarch,Continental to the USA, Virgin,They will announce that mobiles are NOT to be used when the a/c is airborne. These are there rules not mine or theFAAorCAA which proves to me that they are not satisfied with odd report that mobiles dont interfere with a/c avionics and the longer they stick to that rule the better I will Like it. they are doing it for your safety, and if I see anybody using a mobile I will definitely bring it to the attention of the cabin crew..

Anyone noticed the lack of, or reduction of 'fresh' air in the cabin on CTA flights?

Last 2 flights it seemed less pleasant breathing wise. Does it save fuel if they reduce it somehow?

No. hector it just makes you more weary and less bother for the flight attendants. It is more noticeable on night flights and long haul flights.Gives the flight attentands some rest.Could be in your case Hector that there was a problem with the air conditioning, normally a problem with older a/c and I believe CTA have there share of them...

Hector ..I was generalising about flight attendants.I have read all the stories about how "friendly" they are on CTA and there "attitude" problems. ther e have been one or two articles in the press over the last 12 months about this problem of poor air in the cabin and it was traced back to the crew turning the air mix down to make you more tired so you sleep...

I always take a small blanket and pillow and sleep on a plane throught the whole journey. I don't have the "meal". I don't buy duty free. I don't have a drink. I don't want to watch inane drivvel on the in flight TV.

Anything that I should require for that journey has been well thought through, and is in my bag.

I just want the airline to take me from A to B.

I am not a demanding customer.

With the "no smoking" at the airport - there are still ways around this.

Don't be stressed.

The last time I flew the the pilot did his usual announcement blurb "We are travelling at 520 Mph at a height of -------------- etc", and the lady sitting next to me misheard the announcement and asked "20 Mph - how long will it take to get there at that speed?" She perhaps would not have been surprised to see birds overtaking us I thought!

Increases in rage and anger are not confined to airline cabins, these emotions are on the rise in everyday life in the UK. Not surprising when most people live their lives from a state of high arousal, their systems primed for flight or flight.

Do we really want to live this way?

Yes, as CIH says, people will be able to talk on their mobiles whilst in flight. Yet another purely commercial decision, which the airlines will argue, is purely about incresing their customer service offer.

Just because technology can do something doesn't mean we should do it?

the most stressed flight i ever had was when we relocated here.

both dogs were on our flight, which was delayed.(ground crew checked on them)

the woman in the seat behind us, truthfully needed two seats, so she took it out on me infront of her by constantly shoving and kicking my seat.

asked her to stop, this didn't work, when i reclined it, then she was going into one.

she carried on, after about an hour i asked the staff to have a word, which they did.

10 mins after she was at it again, it was like riding a rollercoaster, staff spoke to her again.

about an hour later her friend next to her started doing it to my son.

thats when i lost it!

jumped out of my chair, yelled at her"because you are to bloody fat to fit in your seat, buy two next time and don't take it out on me"

you can imagine the looks i got, even hubby was shocked!

thank god she got off at istanbul.

As long as they serve unlimited amounts of alcohol in the airport lounges and on board the aircraft you will continue to have air rage..I have no doubt umteen of you are going to disagree with me on that....

Well I will never witness one, as I am always asleep on a plane. However, if I had someone kicking me in the back all the time like on fire starter's flight, I would react in the same manner.

yes my dogs were fine, arrived safe and well.

i think it was me that was super stressed.

you always think air rage is something drunks in football tops do.

just shows you how far you can be pushed, especially in a confined space.

normally i love flying, just think of it like getting on a bus or train.

maybe thats my mistake i wouldn't have suffered like this on a bus or train, with them at least you can get off and walk away.

I read in the mail the other week that although you will be able to use your phone on some flights next year , you will be charged an exorbitant price by said airlines for the privilege of doing so.

On travelling to poland for a cheapie weekend last year ,3 quarters of the pols on the flight had their phones switched on and as we started our decent they were pinging off right left and centre as they picked up signals, not a word was said to any of them either!!!

Hi All,

Some people just cannot live without the bloody things(mobiles)What i do find annoying is sometimes within a minute or so of my daughter entering the house, she will receive atext message from the same person that she just left 5 minutes ago. Some people cannot leave their homes without them.Totally against phones on planes though,

Paul.

Is that hard or what !!And you get the ones that sit there and talk to nobody

I think they need the attention

Hi All

Re Air Rage,

We were flying 1st class on air mauritius to mauritius, 12 hour flight from london. Half way through our flight when you would expect most to be sleeping a single man sitting virtualy behind the flight deck kicks off big time, shouting screaming ( abuse to all english and americans ) lashing out at the stewards trying to contain him, and indeed they did, they wrestled him through the cabin to the midway section and held him down untill he calmed down.

Thank God we had the best staff on board that day ! It was very scary !!.

The MRU Police were there to greet him on arrival,

Regards

Saffi

Good god! that's horrible especially in such a contained area, just a good job they have well trained staff for these situations.

If mobile phones were dangerous when used on airlines, surely one would need to hand them in. Rather trusting of the airlines otherwise! No need for a bomb!

The reason the air is not so good now is that since the advent of no smoking, the air is not 'changed' so often! LOL

Big fat women-

Do what my Ex did. Only economy seat left on a flight out of Atlanta is between two huge fat yank women. The Ex bursts into tears and the senior stew upgrades us to business class!!

Vicki,

I am still in one piece, but have had to go incognito to fool the mods,

Not air-rage exactly, but does anyone else remember flying to TRNC many years ago when the London Turks were visiting their families? Looking back, it was quite funny, but at the time it was bloody annoying, not to mention frightening. After taking ages stowing their "hand luggage" - this usually consisted of huge boxes of whatever (nothing changed much there then), they'd walk up and down the plane, chatting to friends, cousins, etc. Then they'd break open the duty free scotch - mind you, they were very generous with it, offering everyone a drink. Bear in mind here, we are still on the runway. Cigarettes were offered around and lit up and they would be sitting on the arms of the seats of others. I once actually saw a couple of stewardesses wrestle a (very large) man into a seat because he decided to pop along to talk to a friend during take off. Apart from the wrestling incident, the cabin crew used to generally take no notice with resigned expressions on their faces.

Cont'd. Mind you, once we were safely airborne, the flights were very entertaining. The TC's were a really friendly, generous bunch and I still remember fondly the way they all clapped when we landed.

Happy days
