Hi all

Looking for parsnips - fresh or frozen. None in Bells or Illeli. Willing to travel! (overland only)

Maggie

They had fresh parsnips in on monday. They had just arrived when we walked in.

Only one tray though, so it may be worth asking when you next go in if they are having any more delivered.

Last year they arrived on Christmas eve.

Parsnips are best when dug in the frost, not much chance in TRNC.

I haven't sorry, saw sprouts somewhere though. Luckily enough my father has brought a few parsnips over from M&S.

Anyone seen any swedes?

PS getting back to parsnips, I've often wondered what that veg they sell here that looks a bit like a parsnip (called kolka or something like that) would be like roasted.

Cooked with it once but not roasted.

They had frozen parsnips in Ileli today, you should find them in with the frozen chips instead of the vegetables.

Swedes are really difficult to find in the Med aren't they? Whereas Finns, Danes and Norwegians are everywhere, especially in summer.....(Sorry..Christmas CCracker style joke mentality is already having an influence! )

I bought kolokos the other day thinking it would do in place of parsnip, but I must admit I wasn't sure what I planned to do with it! Don't suppose anyone'll worry about it when they've got a plate full of everything else.

Kolokas don't really taste anything like parsnip, and you need to strain off the white boiled froth when you have boiled them, i would wash them after boiling too, as i've heard that the white stuff that comes off is not good for you. They taste a bit like soft potatoes, but with a strange aftertaste.

When I cooked a few ages ago I chopped them up and put them in a casserole, seemed fine. (Slightly strange taste but not a bad taste)

I'm always willing to give new things a go, within reason ;-)
