Hi all,

Now that the winter weather is almost here, I am looking for a wooden or plastic clothes airer which I can bring indoors over night. I am looking for the kind that concertinas up and doesn't take up a lot of room. I have not been able to find one in the north yet, does anybody know where I can buy one?

I have looked in china bazaar already and couldn't see what I am looking for, I have also looked in quite a few home and hardware stores but as I live in Esentepe only in the east. It is a long way to go to look in the west of Girne unless somebody knows for definite where there are some.

I have 2 plastic ones, grey, from Ikea, I realise this may not suit you to visit there but maybe a friend could bring you a couple back? I like 2 for the sheet wash!! I bought a metal coated with plastic airer with me, but this has now turned rusty, like most things here!! This of course may stain the clothes.

Agree with Mrs Snakes, a good quality plastic one is your best bet. I got one in Orphanides a couple of year ago, having had the same experience as Mrs Snakes with plastic covered metal ones.

I found the plastic wrapped things warped and the plastic cracked (as all plastic does in the heat here) so I had a friend make a wooden one. No doubt one of the local joiners could do so.

I saw what looked like metal airers in Aladdins Cave (opposite side of road from China Bazaar and a bit nearer Girne) the other day. Didnt look closely as I wasnt looking for one, but everything I have bought from there so far has been good quality. Worth checking if you do decide to come out this way.

I have a white painted metal one which I bought in somewhere like Lemar about 4 years ago and it is still in perfect condition. It is the sort that has a centre bit with two "wings" either side when it is open and folds together when not in use. I know they have them in Home Essentials in Alsancak but, as you say, a long way to go. I'm pretty sure they also have them in Starling.

The one I have is made of strong plastic and has never warped in 2 years. when you open it, the drying area is raised above the middle section so it is perfect for drying king size sheets and jumbo bath sheets. It collapses down quite well for storage and shows no signs of wear.

I purchased it from Marshalls on the west side.
