What do you mean? thirty four thousand pounds for a water bill. She is a single lady who works part time in a care home how can she pay that? Obviously its not correct but in my experience they just say the water has been used.

How strange, my neighbour has used 18tons, he also hasn't been on the island and has no leaks.

The meter has been checked by the beledesi.

He has also got to pay this bill. I know it isn't as much as this poor lady, but what is happening?

I've already queried my bill as the temizlik was very high, also the Aydinlatma, and i get charged for late payment nearly every month, but usually pay the bill a few days after I receive it.

Just out of interest, how much is she being charged for her su bedeli? (the ten ton that she is allowed to use before being charged extra)

re msg 4 if you are on builders tariff your water bill will more expensive than normal tariff . to go on normal tariff you will need a final approval of your house and you can get that from the kaymakamliik . again i don't know which belediye you come under but in lapta there is no way you will get charged for late payment if you pay within 30 days

Good morning and many thanks Berkeh.

The boys at the beledesi have, and are very helpful, but I'm going to email you, as I don't think it's right to put details on a forum.

I will go to the beledeye for her with previous bills which are always the standard charge of 29ytl. On previous occaisions this has happened to other people in the same road only not as much money and after checks they have been told you have to pay up. Strangely that house is unoccupied for long periods of time too and no leaks anywhere. I dont think a hotel bill would be this much for a year let alone a month.

Good luck Deniz1, please let us know what they say about it! I am glad that I get water by the tanker, it may be more expenisve at the time, but at least you wont get that 'unexpected bill' and the worry of being made to 'pay up'.

Seems like a good idea to me. If you only use water a couple of times a year when on holiday a tanker is the best option. You pay the same per month on a meter if you use the water or not. I am not going to say anything to her yet it will ruin Christmas for her. I know from past experience it will take a week or so to get any answer from the beledeye.

Thank goodness for the smart card system now in operation in Girne area, if you run out of credit, it stops and at least you are never faced with a bill for water you never used.

Don't worry Deniz, we have had it happen to us twice now and each time we took the actual meter reading to the beledeye and they cancelled the bill.

A good result i read the meter and i only had to pay 29ytl. They put 78 instead of 0178. I nearly had a heart attack yesterday when i saw the bill.
