Positives. Low crime rate. weather good most of the year. Petrol gets put in the tank for you and car windows washed.(miss this when I am in the UK ) LOL. The majority of restaurants give you a warm welcome most of the time. Hotels are far superior compared / pricewise in the UK. Near to Turkey re hub for flights to far away places. Hop/jump to Istanbul (favourite place for shopping )

Surely only people who actually live on a day-to-day basis in TRNC are qualified to make unbiased comments? We have a holiday home, which suits us just fine, but I myself would not feel qualified to comment on advantages/disadvantages on living there on a daily basis, particularly if I were on a budget which, face it, most of us are.

Jeannie, msg 5, Total respect and in a way , I agree, those of us who own just a"holiday home" are not in complete understanding of the everyday problems that many experience , however, all are entitled to their opinions and no one should not be excluded from the debate, just because they are not resident ! Anyone who goes through the trauma of buying and investing in Northern Cyprus has a voice that should be heard ! There are many on this forum, who comment on everything here, but don't actually own anything here, they are just sad people who have nothing better to do but pretend !!

Eamonn, message 11. I take your point, too. The point I was perhaps trying to make is that going somewhere on holiday on, shall we call it a "holiday budget" i.e. your spending money, is not the same as living somewhere on a daily basis. For instance, when we go on holiday, we would expect to eat out in the evening perhaps 5 times out of 7 and probably have lunch out 6 days out of 7. I would not (unfortunately) be able to afford to do this at home. So what I am saying is not that everyone should not be entitled to voice their opinion (far from it) only that perhaps those that do not live somewhere permanently might just see things from a different perspective. I agree with your last sentence 100%, by the way

Jeannie, I think even if you own a holiday home, you are entitled to comment, your views are just as important as anyone else's. We live here all the time (now in a rental) and feel as the first 2 posts. We have got used to the way of life here including the poor time keeping, lack of driving skills etc, but now just take it all in our stride. The only real disadvantage to us at the moment is the flights but we knew that when we moved here so we just get on with it.

It is almost a year since we moved here full time and yes we are on a budget. I think a lot of people move here and think they are on one long holiday, going out every night to eat and drink in the local bars. We didn't do this in the UK and we don't do it here. We go out a couple of times a week and meet up with friends but as we are both moderate drinkers, it does not cost a lot of money. We eat out on average once a week, which is more than we did in the UK. We can do this in the TRNC because it is a whole lot cheaper than London. It has cost us more than we estimated because things have gone up so much here in the last year but I wouldn't want to move back to the UK. We couldn't have had a BBQ in our neighbours garden on boxing day in the UK. I didn't know my neighbours in London, here I am surrounded by them. I have found both locals and expats both friendly and helpful. Life is what you make it and we are very happy here.

As far as we are concerned, the pros far outway the cons after 6 years of living here. Yes, we do miss our friends and family, yes we do miss the rolling green hills of the countryside and the shops and even the NHS. However we do not miss the ever rising crime in the UK, the depressing weather, the total lack of respect of the younger generation, the PC brigade and the stress levels that everyone seems to be living with. We are both classed as retired but if we were still in the UK we would need to work at least part time in order to survive. Someone asked in an earlier post how much it costs to live here per month, well we live on less that £1000 very comfortably and that includes rent and a really good social life. You have to cut your cloth according to your means, which means living within your budget where ever you are. Given the choice we would far rather wake up to the sun shining through the window most days, in this lovely place. We love the TRNC!

@ msg 15, pammick: I second your post! 100%! And for those who disagree: who asked you to come and live here..?! If you don't like it here - get out, go back to your 'blighty' and leave us poor fans of this country in peace. Bye!

Well said Pam. We are more than happy here and certainly would not have the quality of life in the UK as we do in the TRNC.

I think it depends on what type of lifestyle you have in the UK.?? Are you a have or have not so to speak. Personally i find living in the TRNC is slumming it.
