Michelle

Humax boxes are sold at various electronics shops but I would start at Tektan (up the side street by the Iktisat Bank)

Humax boxes are extremely good at what they do, far superior tuner to a skybox, but if you are purchasing the HDD version to get the EPG to work it has to be tuned in in the UK.

Humax make a wide range of satellite TV receivers and some FTA versions are available in Cyprus..

But, the original poster is inquiring about the Freesat version not FTA, and this model is designed for UK internal market, so not sold in Cyprus.

Although the freesat Humax (to be more precise "Humax Foxsat) box is a FTA box, it is marketed as a Freesat box and has an exceptionally sensitive tuner...in fact, better than any Skybox tuner available.

Unfortunately i cannot suggest an alternative...since i dont work with FTA boxes i dont know which ones are better than others..

I know Humax Foxsat-HD Freesat box because when they first came out, i ordered one from UK to do some testing and that's when i realized how good their tuner was in fringe reception..

Whilst the Humax box is a very good box it does have it's down side against the sky box. Deleting programs can be a bind as it only lets you delete one at a time, this can take quite some time if you use HD. I have used both in the UK although the skybox is now just a receiver and not a recorder as I wanted HD at no cost.

Hello Iceman,

Will a Humax Foxsat-HD Freesat box work in the TRNC if connected to a 4.2 metre dish or is it only Sky receivers that will.

Message 7 said that the EPG would only work if tuned in to the UK, what was your experience when you tested one of these, would you share your findings with us.

Thank you.

Iceman is the man for all things technical and setting up TV reception that works, but for the record a Humax connected to a 4.2 receives Freesat which is like watching telly in the UK inc. regional variations, and after the set up costs it`s free!

Humax runs of two satellites

Programmes picks up in Cyprus no problem.

But for the initial set up you have to input a postcode which when installed loads up the EPG, the satellite that picks this up only works in a narrow shadow around the UK perhaps stretching to nearby Europe.

The updates also work from the same satellite but these can also be uploaded via the Humax website so not a problem.

Once I had loaded my postcode in the UK the Humax and EPG works perfectly in Cyprus

Mike...a small correction.

Unlike most other brands of freesat boxes...The software on Humax Foxsat box allows you to do a normal search as well as a postcode search.

Difference between postcode search and normal is that..Postcode search puts the main terrestrial channels at the top of the list (according to your postcode)

In any case...Humax software allows you to rearrange the channel listing according to your preferences.

Also Humax Foxsat HD comes in two models..

The Foxsat HD (single tuner/no recording) and the Foxsat HDR (twin tuner+HDD for recording)
