I assume someone will have the answer, but how many of our 3464 members, actually actively post here say once a month? How many claim to be speaking for the silent majority?

Dear Wyn,

I don,t know the answer, I can only speak for ourself,s ,

We love NC and have been visiting for over 15 yrs and have seen many changes.

We still consider NC as our bolt hole, a place away from mass tourism and such like !! A place where we can relax ,shouders go down and chill out.

So therefore we are interested about anything that posters with an interest in NC have to say.

Regards

Saffi

More to the point how many members actually post anything relevant to the TRNC? which after all is what this board is all about.

I am sure there are a lot of members that sit in the background and just read whats going on, most of them are probably scared as hell to post anything.

Take a look at some the the responses posters get. Would you want to dive in?

This used to be one of the most welcoming sites around, what do you think?

Hi Wyn.

I would guess that the membership is only 30% of the figure you gave. Of that figure I would again guess that only 25% of them live permanently in the trnc.

I will end by saying that if every post was literally about the trnc you wouldn't get 25% of the posts you get now.

This is a great forum and ALL the members should give themselves a pat on the back. Well done to everyone.

i used to think so but not anymore.

too many people hiding behind two or more user names, so they can post snide remarks without it affecting their customers or business's.

i just love watching those who also post on other forums, its amazing how their views change on different subject, according to the company they are in.lol.

and the group hug thing, be very carefull who you are hugging.

me personally, i tell it how it is.

I also dislike the ability of people to create multiple identities - surely it is possible to restrict forum registration from only one person per one computer?

Ok, you could buy multiple computers, but this will shut out all but the most determined.

AJ,

I posted the qeustion because I was interested in the statistics, not the content of the posts.

I do have to say however that if you intend to restrict the board to matters of the TRNC and not to matters likely to be of interest to people who live in, or are thinking of going to live in the TRNC, then you will probably cut out 50% or more of posts. No1Doyen makes precisely the same point!

IMHO Many of the 3469 members are too scared to post, because of the heavy handed responses they get from certain members. It would be a brave (or foolish) member indeed

who would say they had just bought offplan in The TRNC, and ask this board for help and advise, nowadays. (Perhaps we should issue new members with asbestos underwear! Joke!

Just my opinion, thats all!

It's very difficult knowing what you can actually post now.

I agree with No.1 Doyen, if only items specifically related to TRNC were posted then there would be a lot less postings.

But if people crack a joke or attempt to then they are jumped on from above and posts/threads are removed and people don't know why. Members on the board are mainly adults and the majority of them would not be openly offensive but at times things are said tongue in cheek, or just off the cuff with no intention of offending anyone.

It is very sad but it seems to me that " he who shall not be mentioned" achieved his goal of spoiling the concept of this board by taking the fun out of it.

Wyn I don't disagree with you but there are a certain amount of members that cannot for some reason do anything else but post one line replies that don't bring anything to this board. I can have a laugh as much as the next person but I really do not understand why some people bother to be members of this board if they cannot be constructive in their postings.

I have to agree 100 %

" It is very sad but it seems to me that " he who shall not be mentioned" achieved his goal of spoiling the concept of this board by taking the fun out of it."

Gone is the fun that we seem to have had I joined 24/12/2006 and of late it has gone down hill due to a number of things but starting with " he who shall not be mentioned " and culmunating in numours mods postings vanishing and an air of " its not what it was on here "

AJ. Surely you don't mean that every response has to be the length of War and Peace. Some responses only need a simple one line. As Chessman said - free choice. Just think of how long some of the responses would take if we all gave in-depth replies. We'd all be on here ages. I mean I could have answered your question by just saying I agree with Chessman. However I chose to answer with a slightly longer response to try and give you an idea of how long it would be to respond to your question. You will no doubt read this response and question the content of it and will probably reply by saying it's much too long, which of course it is. That's why sometimes a noe line response is much simpler. I hope you'll look at this response as being constructive.

Totally agree, but there are more people on here now who seem to just want to attack people - about absolutely anything - just for the hell of it. Some people are obviously going to be offended by something that someone else thinks is just a bit of fun - human nature.

As someone else said on another thread ''wait a couple of minutes before pressing Post Reply''.

AJ, with respect It is the moderators job to moderate what is posted, not to dictate what

members should be posting.

I stress again if the moderators has enforced the no personal insults rule in the first place,

this board would never have been driven off course in the first place.

Hattikins,

"he who shall not be mentioned".........damn it! Name and shame! If you can't do that, then this board is not worth posting on.

As my mother used to say......"Tell the truth, and shame the devil!" and my mother was always right! (well I wouldn't have dared to argue with her, or dad!")

wyn - it is the moderators' job to uphold the forum rules. These were instigated by Izzet, and if anyone has a problem with any of them, they should contact Izzet off board.

We are all going round in circles. Izzet appointed more moderators because of the personal insults and abuse which you and other members were receiving - now it seems that everyone has a problem with the moderators! As I said on another post - we are not all online at the same time, but hopefully someone will be. We cannot pick and choose which rules to enforce.

I can see no purpose in ''naming and shaming he who shall not be mentioned'', it just continues the harm being caused to the forum.

I,m getting a bit confused here, I did contact Izzet about a thread that had been deleted, he knew nothing about it .

But I do agree with Wyn, it is the moderators job to moderate not dictate, it is the inconsistency of the moderation that is causing problems, just cut us all a bit of slack and credit people with some intelligence as to what is and isn,t suitable for an open forum.

I agree Hattikins, and I think most people on here are very intelligent.

What do you suggest we do - wait until someone starts screaming for a moderator? As I said, we should not pick and choose which rules should be moderated.

If there are any rules which you do not agree with, discuss them with Izzet.

I agree with Nige. Moderators should only moderate in moderation. Moderators not moderating in moderation should be moderated themselves by a different moderator, who in turn must moderate in a moderating fashion and not be seen to be moderating moderately.

If you get my meaning.

"AJ, with respect It is the moderators job to moderate what is posted, not to dictate what members should be posting."

And I agree with you, I have only deleted two impending postings and have edited none. I have no intention of deleting or editing 'one line postings' I also have no intention of editing or deleting postings that are specifically aimed at me (and there have been a few in the past) and I would expect other moderators to decide whether those post's aimed at me break the boards rules or not. My comment about one line posters that bring nothing to the board was purely that, a comment. If it was my board I would review the membership of those certain people (at least 5 that I know of) but seeing as it is not my board then I will not get involved. Again for all of those that do not understand I will moderate against the rules laid down by Izzet with the exclusion of personal post's aimed at me. Hope that clears up any misunderstandings about any of my previous postings.

I bet you are an Emmerdale fan. You just love intrigue and despite your postings my guess is that you just can't keep away from these types of threads.

Enjoy your day. Oh and you might get up to 2 line posting soon but it does come with practice so stick at it.

Don't worry you will get the hang of it. I think maybe you are worried about what happens to the characters you post after the end of the line. Do not worry they do not just fall off of the page, they do try to regroup themselves in an orderly fashion. Try it and see you never know you might be pleasantly surprised.

"AJ, still trying to be the centre of attention?"

I added a question mark to your posting because I thought you were asking a question.

And the answer is yes. Now that will keep everyone happy for a few postings.

I am sure it will bring on the "slag AJ brigade" again.

But I will take the time to read it all tomorrow, I am off out for another enjoyable evening with friends.

Enjoy your evening everyone.
