My neighbour has recently returned to the UK for a couple of months leaving me in charge of his newly acquired dog. The dog has today gone 'walkabout' today . She is about 8 months old at most; grey in colour; long legs; big sticking up ears very slim build and has a collar and disc with my friend's phone no. on it. I am in possession of his Cyprus mobile. If seen please ring the number and I will come and collect her. She doesn't have form for wandering off and is normally dead on time for her grub. Not so today.

Oh dear oh dear, why another dog missing , why another dog gone walk a bouts, why ? It is only in NC that this seams to happen... I know its not your dog, but its so sad to read of all these dogs being neglected, or not kept in a garden 'fit for purpose' .... Saying that do hope this young dog is soon found ..

"She doesn't have form for wandering off and is normally dead on time for her grub" Is one to presume from the foregoing, she was in a position that she could leave the premises? No wonder then, she left - looking for her owners!!!!!!! She cannot possibly know they are coming back - at so young an age, (even if older) she cannot rationalise that you are looking after her (I use the term loosely now) and they will be returning...I simply CANNOT understand people who are bewildered that a dog, NOT confined to a house or garden, walk away...I am bewildered that any adult would be bewildered...will never forget the production number some woman started God knows how many threads about, when her dog was missing - when it didn't come back one night after ten minutes as it "usually" did...just astonishing...

Sadly, the gentleman in question meant very well and took pity on this dog. She was very much a stray and emaciated. He has never had a dog before and decided he would look after her and take her back to the UK. He is only a visitor here at the moment. Unfortunately he had plans in place to travel in the new year and was unable to kennel the dog. Very well meant but looks like ending badly. He had even started the jabs for qualifying the dog for a pet passport and KAR were to arrange for her to travelto the UK. With luck she may surface, but am not holding my breath.

re msge 6; The fact that this dog has access to the great wide world is not something I am responsible for. Also that the garden is not dog proof. Perhaps naively the owner thought she would not stray while being fed twice a day. I was/am responsible for feeding her not confining her to her house/garden. I have three dogs - all ex strays - but have made my garden dog proof. Not everyone can do this without huge expense. At least he has tried to help this dog which is more than many would do. Don';t be too hard on him.

Lilyross; thanks for that. Almost certainly that is the dog that has gone missing. The brown and tan was a stray until a month or so when another neighbour took her in. They have been playing for the last ten days since the owner returned to the UK. They were inseperable and it is unlikely she would suddenly go off. Will check the area again in day light tomorrow. Have looked all round this evening but in the dark it is not terribly effective. Neither of the two houses at the front at occupied at the moment so she can't be shut in but will check again first thing tomorrow. Thanks.

Trooper I hope the little dog is found safe and well. There isn't a lot that you can do to prevent her wandering off again though if she is found is there? I'll be keeping a look out for her for you.

by midnight my neighbour found her nearby and returned her to a secure and very large 'cage' which was only really intended for overnights. Perhaps she will be in there a little more until she goes to kenels on the 3rd. Thanks for the constructive contributions.

message 6, You are very quick to condemn, almost arrogant!...reading your other thread contribution, you are obviously not a dog owner and therefore do not know what you are missing out on! David
