I have a large pampas grass in my garden, new *feathers* are still coming through, can anyone tell me if and when we need to cut it down or is there anything else we need to do with it.

@ msg 1, hattikins: Buy a bottle of weed killer and you'll win the battle. About 20 Euros/litre, for sale at garden centers. Be careful when using it (plastic gloves advisable), it's dangerous stuff. Good luck!

No DC, I don't want to kill it, I want to encourage more growth.

Hattikins... we always set fire to ours, burn it down and the new growth is soon away...

Sounds brutal, but it does work....

On reading your post again, you say that it has new shoots coming, perhaps its best not to burn but to just cut away all the dead throngs and pull out the dead around the base ...

We usually burn ours every 3 or 4 years ... tidies it up beauty ...

Oi Turtle, you've seen my neighbours, would you like to swing with them, let me know next time you're here and I'll see what we can do.

Carol - couldn't possibly comment on the "fun" aspects of your having pampas grass (having never seen your neighbours) but can certainly recommend burning them for increased growth.
