Happy New Year to you and all your staff!

I would like to thank you for your 1st class service - I went into the Girne office yesterday to enquire about getting connected and was told that they'd send someone today and that they would ring later in the afternoon to confirm. They did as they said and called to confirm that someone would come this morning and that they would ring before they came - which they did. The engineer was very professional and it turned out he was working on his day off so that I wasn't let down.....brilliant customer service!

After having no connection for 5 days I'm now back online and surfing a lot quicker than before - thank you again!

Thank you Kemal, and Mutlu Yillar to everyone at Multimax (and to your new fiancee!). You've given the internet industry in North Cyprus a shot in the arm with great products at a good price and excellent customer service. I'd like to think the other ISPs will also pick their game up, but I doubt you've got much to worry about!

Kemal can you look into a reliable internet phone connection for the future? Skype is so hit and miss poor sound quality laptop to laptop. I have no chance of getting a land line where i live. I intend to sign up with you in May when i move.

Deniz1, do you use the built in microphone and speakers in your laptop when making Skype calls ? If you do this is probably the 'worst' way to do things sound quality wise. A decent combined headset and microphone plugged into the laptop your end (and preferably at the other end too) will almost certainly result in a better experience sound quality wise. Just an idea.

Or a USB skype phone which plugs into your pc also much better for sound.

Thanks Erolz i normally use a head set but have just bought a new laptop so thought that would be better. I used to have a skype phone that plugged in but it went wrong so often i gave up. Just thought there are many folk here who would love a reliable phone system when they have no land line. A gap in the market perhaps? Ihad a look at the video phone some one was talkng about on another thread but its a lot of money if it doesnt work!

Deniz1 generally any system that does not isolate the output (speakers) from the input (microphone) can cause problems. On older laptops what would often happen with a skype call is the person on the other end says something , it comes out of the reciveing laptops speakers and then back into the recieving laptops microphone and cause an echo to the sending person. Newer laptops try and use clever means to stop this, by basically filtering whats going into the mcrophone, trying to seperate out what the person is actualy saying from noise that comes from its own speakers and background noise. However like all 'celver' systems that can cause more problems than they solve. Using a headset just physicaly isolates the input from the output and avoids the need for all this 'trickery'.

Skype phones can be great but they do generally also need their own software and drivers to work and interface with skype fully and this can cause problems [cont]

The 'beauty' of a headset is that it does not need any new drivers or software to work. You just plg it into the right sockets on the laptop and it works.

As to Multimax offering telephony services themselves, unsing the internet, this too has its own set of problems. With any telephony over the internet Multimax can only control the 'connection' in part of the network. Once it is out of this part and on the general internet, Multimax has no control over what happens, yet these parts of the network can cause a given call not to work. With 'old world' telphony the phone company (or companies for international calls) control the entire network from start to finish and thus can control how reliable their service is, which is why such telphony works more reliably than any internet based system will. However it costs much more and is a lot less flexible, in that you can only do things like multi way calling nd video if the phone compnay says so.
