Yes a member of our family recently renewed. Download the form from the British High Commission website, print off the credit card form, get new photos taken[old ones no longer valid as changes have been made] and if you go to Cafe Boss [near to HSBC in Girne] they will take care of everything for you using DHL. The passport was back in NC within 3 weeks.

Hope this helps.

If you go to the British High Commission they will do it but it has to be sent to Madrid by courier so you might as well go to Cafe boss. What happens if you dont have a credit card? I dont.

Absolutely nothing will happen, the renewal has to be paid for using a credit card. Try to get a friend to pay it for you and give him / her the money.

A friend of ours sent her passport back to the UK with a friend of hers, had it sent to be renewed and returned to her friend who then brought it back here! Things have changed because we used to have to sign on the form that we had been in the country for so many weeks before renewal. We renewed ours in UK this year, I sent mine off the day after I arrived and had a new one back in eight days, my husband sent his off the day after he arrived and got his back in THREE days - work that one out.

You can renew your passport at the British High Commission in the North, they are only open for 2 days which I think are Wednesday and Friday, you can also get the passport forms from there as well. I did mine there because I lost my old one. In total is cost me 175.00 that included dhl and yes it went to Spain to be renewed. It took just under 3 weeks to get the new one back. Hope this helps.

Just out of interest, how much does it cost to renew your passport if you send it to UK,rather than doing it here through BHC ?

The BHC no longer renew passports, but they will send off your application to Madrid for you at a price.

The new passport comes back to the BHC whether you sent it to Madrid yourself, or if BHC did for you, and you have to collect it from the BHC. Latest info is available on the FCO website. Incidentally Madrid check the application and send it off to UK who actually generate the document. Cream Quackers?!

Check the days that BHC are open as I think it could be Tues and Thurs because we went Wednesday and were told we had the wrong day.

Our new passports in the UK cost around £80 and you can renew them up to six months before due date, any longer and then it will be from that date (does that make sense? The date of your renewal will be the date on your new passport if you renew it within the six months of the due date!)

I would go on to their website http://ukincyprus.fco.gov.uk/en/, we renewed my husbands passport when the changes to application changed and all had to be sent to Madrid in September, we went to British High Council and they would not even check that we had filled forms in correctly, all we could get of them was an A4 sheet with instructions which proved to be incorrect, lucky for me I managed to speak with someone from High Commission on South Side and they put me on right track, we went to Cafe Boss in Girne and managed with Rowena's kind assistance between us to sort out all probs, we then sent it by DHL via Rowena, due to this experience she also now knows the whole procedure and will advise anyone applying before she will DHL it, this is of course at no extra cost, and the good news for us was our passport was back within two weeks, which was the biggest shock as it was in the first weeks of the change over and we had not expected it back for months!

Cafe Boss is on the turning from HSBC Bank, Lapta to Girne Road, first roundabout left, take first left (hsbc on corner), bout 4 shops down, sorry don't have phone number, but open Monday to Friday, without getting out all documentation out cannot remember exact cost, but DHL around £30 which is same everywhere and cost quoted on sheet from High Commission, good luck and I am sure it will all go smoothly if you use this method.

Re: Msg 24,

Sorry, forget to add, if it is for somebody aged 16 or under, then you need parent's details even if it's a renewal.
