I need to hide an eyesore on a NE facing wall. I need something that will grow up a trellis to a height of about 12' plus. Any suggestions? Or can anyone recommend a garden centre that can offer professional and honest advice in english, and not just flog me something that will die.

Also, can anybody tell me what to do about scale insects on citrus trees? Is there anywhere here that sells systemic pesticides?

Happy NY everybody

I have a passion flower growing up a NE corner of the house - its doing well and will get to 12' with no trouble.

If you are near Alsancak - Try the Nature Nursery - See Ulus - speaks english & very knowledgeable and helpful - you can also get a coffee & something to eat in their Cafe.

Passion flower will grow fairly fast but beware it not only grows upwards but can send out roots all over the place, lots of shoots coming up where you don't want them.

why not think about a mix of honeysuckle and jasmine, pretty flowers and nice scents.

the new pet/garden shop run by Selpa Trading near the small Dogankoy roundabout has a good selection of pesticides etc.

Nannykathleen.

You could consider a combination, if you wished to blot out the whole wall, of Canna Lillies a foot away from the wall, they will grow to eight feet or so in time. Geraniums at the front, the red and lilac ones that do well here and grow to 3 feetish. Planted up against the wall you could put in a Wisteria and train it in the directions that you need.

Once established none of these plants need much water, if water is an issue were you live, chuck your washing up water around the roots.

The Wisteria will layer it's self and send up new shoots through the soil around it so you will have to keep an eye on it but then you could harvest a few baby plants from it to plant elsewhere or pass onto your pals.

Good Luck.
