We should be ok in the summer then after all this rain, if it carries on we may have to build an Ark.

I have not been taking any accurate measurement of rainfall experienced to date but simply by the amount of water I have had to send to waste from my pool so far this Winter, the aggregated rainfall is no where near what we experienced in a couple of hours one day 2 years ago at this location. Then, dry ravines became raging torrents which stayed that way for weeks as water cascaded down the mountainsides. Unless such a storm occurs again this Winter or there are very protracted periods of heavy rain I anticipate water shortages again this Summer and the necessity to pay dearly for deliveries by tanker. The water table seems to be the key as evidently the capacity of reservoirs to store water is outstripped by ever increasing demand for water. Perhaps the recent census would have been more accurate if they had counted the cups of water used throughout the TRNC !

If always amazes me that when we visit the Gecitkoy reservoir is always half empty ?

The amount of water that must come down the mountain seems to be largely lost to the sea.

2 years ago after the bad rains we visited the reservoir for a walk it was early May and it looked down even then and the overflow area looked as if nothing had been down it for years.

I thought it was fair comment. One time near Belfast as I got in my car I noticed that there were 4 foot pedals rather than 3. I lifted the carpet in the footwell and found that one pedal was a b.....y great toadstool or mushroom. The roots were in the underlay which was soaking wet with condensation. I thought if I had not been parking in my garage regularly it would probably have been a tree ! The boot had a faster throughflow of water than the River Bann.
