This winter I bought a wood burning stove, and using wood cut down I year ago, from trees in the garden. So cost of fuel virtually nil.It has a small oven where I cook chicken, roast potatoes, and cottage pies.Potatoes and veg,are cooked on the top.

Last year my Kibtec bills were 300_400tl per month.

I have just paid 2 months bills,total 340tl,ie 170tl per month !!!!

Yes,I have a pool, where the pumps run twice a day, and the electric blanket is on each night, but

NO electric heating in the rooms !!!!I can get a shower/shave in the afternoon from the solar panel hot water.

Now a lunch-time fry up on the top of the stove !!!

I just bought a cylindrical Turkish woodburner and like you I had a lot of wood from the garden. We have a stove pipe going up and along and then out of the wall. It's amazing the heat it puts out. When we leave all the room doors open, all of the house is warm.(that's about 100mē).

As Its winter, I run the Pool pump once a week for 1 hour and have done without problems for the last 3 winters,(Always ensuring that Chemicals are spot on), run an electric blanket for an hour or so to get the bed warm, My average Electric Bill rarely goes above 100TL per month , 160TL in summer with Increased Pool Pump, A/C useage

Dippersgirl and Mike, where did you get your wood burners from? Where they good value? They sound like a very good idea.

The prices quoted were the same for me in Dipkarpaz. I bought 6 m of pipe and two elbows and a little hat for outside and the stove and I paid tl200 (initially I bought more pipe, but did not use it all). One of the local workmen has a machine, that drills a perfect round hole in the wall, wasn't even that messy

I did not want the one with the oven as the cooking smells would go all ound the house. I can still use the top for cooking if I wanted to. Wood is not difficult to get here. We asked our friend to bring us one load, but will also scavenge the country side from now on.

Message 4. I take it that the main heat output is from the flue/chimney?

My husband wants to get another stove and put it into the old original fire place we have in the kitchen (we have an old Cypriot house), he says it should be no problem, you can get smaller round stoves and oblong ones in more than one size.

We use one at Whiskey Joe's Bar, keeps the bar nice warm and cosy. Uses less than half the wood that the open fire does and much more heat.

Wood burning stove much more efficient than open fire, best to use 1 year dried wood.
