Hi everybody!

Can anyone advice me on the cost of current electricity usage in North Cyprus.

Actually, I want to reduce the cost.

I have the following items working as:

Washing machine - 3 times in a week.

Dishwashing machine - 3 times in a week.

Oil radiator - everyday at least 10 hours.

Electrical hob - everyday at least 2 hours.

Electrical oven - 2 times in a month.

Water heater - constantly..

Freeze, tv and other small items..

How much will it may cost per month? Is there any ways to cut it off..

Thank you for advicing

Start to switch off "stand-by mode" on all your equipment - it saves you hundreds of Euros per year!

Chuck out all the appliances, fill in the swimmiing pool and buy a log burning stove and some candles.

Seriously, you can be careful with it all but at the end of the day you want to maintain your living standards, a little care will go a long way to reducing your bills here.

I feel so sorry for local people and the elderly on fixed incomes, they will have to choose whether to heat or eat if the rises continue.

If anyone has an elderly neighbour, please check occasionally to see whether they are managing to keep warm. Perhaps invite them into your home when it is particularly cold for a nice hot meal and a couple of hours of company, and if you have spare blankets which are not needed then these would probably be most welcome. We can all do little things which make a huge difference to people's lives.

Find another form of heating. The oil filled radiator running for 10 hours a day will be the most likely item to cause high electricity bills. You do not say which kilowatt setting you are using either. Maybe try a halogen heater instead?

To be fair the original poster does not say whether he owns the property he's trying to heat or maybe he rents it?

If he rents then he may not be able to add an aircon unit which will need some plumbing in. Some landlords will not allow this to be installed & then removed if the tenant wants to move.

The initial cost of an aircon unit will be a lot more than to buy an electric fire. Yes I know that electric fires are expensive to run but some are far more expensive to run than others.

Change the electric hob for a gas one or buy a small two-ring gas burner. Not sure what kind of water heater you refer to, if it is a water dispenser, then stop heating your water and use the gas hob instead. Switch all your power sockets off when they are not in use (except the fridge of course). This will definitely make a difference.

How about making your own (free) electricity from solar panels?
