Having had the fire for a number of years I cannot remeber if the pilot light flame was always white or whether it should be blue. Any help please

Should be blue. Usually goes yellow if the secondary air port gets blocked with lint or fluff. Clean out the port and all will be restored! If there is no port then the injector may need replacing.

You should have the fire serviced, you should also have a carbon monoxide detector in your place otherwise you might not wake up one day

I had a similar problem, a white pilot light and trouble getting it to stay on, so I turned the bottle upside down a couple of times and hey presto it seems ok.

stripped the heater down removed the injector and noticed that the air holes were blocked. cleaned them and refitted the injector and everything is now fine. Have a steady blue flame. I decided to do the same with my other heater and it is also now working perfectly. thanks for the advice.
