rugby league is and always will be classed as a minority sport in the eyes of the media It just happens to be the sport that is closest to my heart. When i was twelve i was chosen to play for my city at under thirteen level my mam and dad were so proud of me.To make things even better the game that i was to play in was at craven park.To the majority of people reading this post now craven park wont mean jack shit.Craven park (rugby league) is old trafford football (without the prawn sandwiches) in sporting terms. The ground that i played on is now a bloody supermarket (morrisons) since the day i played on that hallowed mud against leeds i have always followed and loved the sport and hopefully will continue to do so.Rugby league i.m.o. will always be a yorkshire/lancashire/cumbrian top notch sport and long may it reign.

Dodger,

Well said, not sure why this is a message for Tiggy only!!!

I admire your passion for the sport that you love, I was bought up on football (coming from Grimsby), there was little or no rugby at all tought at school, just football, so thats what I did.

I never reached anything like the levels that you did, but I have learned, through my children playing Rugby(union), that one can never close your mind to new sports and now I absolutely love rugby, all forms, with a preferance for Union.

So please no more Yawns!!! ok

I did not get this either until I read Tiggys comments on the sports quiz thread (been avoiding that one as it does not interest me) Like MC I was raised on football, went with my dad to watch Derby and still take a interest on how they are doing.

I only started watching rugby as Husband started playing and I love it, and each to their own I say whether its Football, rugby union or league or any other sport.

What I like about rugby is that its played by MEN,its a hard pysical and often quite brutal game, they spend 80 minutes trying to beat each other up and then afterthe game go for a drink together.

Sorry footy takes second place for me.

Good Evening Dodger, and all other forum users.

Seems my intended wind up about Rugby got your sensitive side!!!

From an early age I used to watch the rugby league BBC games on a Saturday afternoon with the great voice of Eddie Waring commentating. I liked it better than the union to be honest and my team was the Hull KR (now gone?) Tried a bit of union at school and loved it. My game was footy and had to give it up in my mid twenties after breaking my ankle and messing up my ligaments playing over Hackney Marshes on a muddy Sunday morning! Arghhhhh I can still feel the tackle! All I can say is I like nearly all sports and good luck to the competitors and the supporters that take part..

Take it easy,

P.

What are you apologising for. As I always say the spoken word is better than the written word! I read it the way you meant it. Nicely put by you.

I may be getting old here....was there not two teams in Hull in the 60's I though HKR was the one that folded years later?....Silly me.

Because I'm at work I have to follow a certain code of what I type as certain words are flagged up and trouble is not needed. Any way at your age you should be able to use other words!!!!!

Tiggy,

At my age cheeky young devil how dare you call me old ,you bounder and cad lol,

rugby league in hull is thriving with two proffessional teams hull k.r. and the enemy hull f.c. one team is in the east and one is in the west of the city hence the rivalry.we also have a football team who play in the championship, could make the play offs to the premier league this season.its all going on in hull.wish eddie waring was still alive to see it.

Hi Tiggy,

Hull KR after acheiving promotion to the super league they managed to finish comfortably (points wise if not position wise!) in the 2006/2007 season, so are still going strong.

Lovelife well said about being played by men - I put a link in a while ago, to a comment from a player from my local club, that played for 4 months with a dislocated shoulder that kept poping out when he tackled on his right side - imagine a modern day football player doing that! (and he was still being considered for "man of steel" at the end of the season) (and probably would have got it if he had played for St Helenss - I'm not bitter about it - as you can tell!)

But credit to the union players - it is still a hard, hard game, but in my opinon its too disjointed. The ball spends more time being booted into touch or under a pile of players, where in league its fast, flowing and creative.

Dodger, Hiya mate, I wish we had Dean Windass back at Bradford, I loved to watch him play. Not the best player ever but good at winding the opposition up on and off the field and knows where the goal is! we should never have let him go twice!

Tony smith has picked a totally different team for GB tonight, I hope we haven't comromised strength just for giving the players a run out. But I'll give him the benefit of the doubt! Just this once. It would be nice to whitewash the kiwis!

Dodger, Wigan are considering signing Willie Mason on half a million a year over 3 years - What salary cap I hear you say?????????????

Wigan only have £140,000 left to spend on the cap so if they are going to get him they will have to let players go,i.m.o. he will be going to sydney roosters.but think of it another way what difference would it make to wigan if they did go over the salary cap anyway.next season there will probably be no relegation so even if the spineless r.l. docked them the maximum twelve points and they finished bottom they wouldnt get relegated as there wont be any.and there bound to get a franchise.According to justin morgan(hull k.r.) mason will not leave australia as he has two many commitments there and wants to play for the test team.Wouldnt it be ironic though if mason and fielden ended up in the same team, bearing inmind mason put fielden on his bottom.watch this space.

Yeah , I thought it was a bit of a weak punch - theres a clip on youtube when mason disrespects the Haka - then one kiwi puts him on his a**E with a big hit - Quality.

The best punch i ever saw thrown on a rugby pitch was at the old craven park rovers v queensland early eighties i think.when mark broadhurst laid out the queensland hooker, and ref mr whitfield had a big grin on his face and never sent him off.thats on you tube.

Yes watched that one , I remember fielden against smith , he came off looking like he'd been in a car crash - they cant get away with it now or its a 3 -4 match ban. Yes shame for fielden I think we had his best years - but I bet he'll have another couple of good years yet.

have you heard about the goings on in hull regarding the paul cooke affair.i new the supporters of opposing clubs had their differences (to put it mildly)but the directors are at it as well.

Haven't looked into it too closely, but not surprised, local rivalry runs deep. I was very surprised when cooke switched - he must have known the repercushions (how do you spell that word!) and would have done everything by the book! - I wouldnt like it if a bulls player went to l**ds under handidly!
