Hi all,

Just starting a new thread to let you know about the market that takes place at Açmenya Restaurant in Alsancak on Thursday afternoons.

This Thursday is another special market day for us. Some of our regular stallholders that were on holiday over Christmas and the New Year are back and raring to go. There'll be books, clothes, plants and garden ornaments, hand made crafts, hand made fashion and collectible jewellery, electrical home appliances, perfumes and gold jewellery.

Our newlyweds will be back selling their food along with, I hope, our other food stall selling fresh and frozen meals and snacks.

We have some other newcomers including the chance to try your hand at Bowling as some of the organisers from the Flat Green Bowling Club soon to open in Lapta will be there.

And we have a special treat. We have some line dancers coming along to play music and entertain you with some of their dancing. And of course everyone will be able to join in to have some fun to

Don't forget, the market is still FREE for all stallholders so there's nothing to lose if you have something to sell. Tables are also provided.

The restaurant have a special market day menu, I can particularly recommend the fish, chips and peas - just can't resist the smell!

Please tell all your friends and neighbours to pay us a visit.

The market is on 11-2pm every Thursday, although we'll stick around until later if it's busy!!

Don't forget, if you have gold jewellery to sell, you can bring it along to me at Açmenya restaurant market on Thursday afternoon and I will make you an offer. I will give you cash there and then.

Remember, this week we have some music and dancing to entertain you. You might also feel like joining in!

And, don't worry about the weather. If it's not looking promising we'll be inside so you can stay warm and dry!

Hope to see you all there tomorrow.

The organisers and restaurant are still intending to keep the market free for stallholders which is a great motivator for many who are unsure whether it will be worth their while. You have nothing to lose.

Last week was a busy week and even when the weather turned iffy we still ducked inside and continued to run the market inside.

More new stallholders booked for this week including food, and also ladies underwear booked in today, all good quality European brands of bras and knickers brought over from the UK in all sizes, elegant bras even for the largest of needs! At prices you would not believe for this quality.

Hi Sadie,

You don't need to phone anyone, just turn up with your wares - between 10.30-11 and look out for Nicky who organises the market. She'll sort you out with a table. There's lots of stalls but still plenty of room for more. If you're hoping for a particular spot, get there closer to 10.30!

Look forward to seeing you there.

And if you're selling something in particular, why not add to this post to let everyone know what they can find at the market next Thursday.

Message 15 - straitasadie

Please accept my apologies for taking this off subject a bit, but there is a question I've been meaning to ask for ages and it is about your "nickname".

Is it supposed to read as "strait as a die" or "strait a sadie"?

Again, my apologies to both yourself and Pippie, but it's been bugging me

Thank you.

Jean

message 7 - strait(straight) - as - a - die. A die is a tool for making threads perfectly striaght. It means to be totally honest and trustworthy which i'm proud to be. At the time straightasadie to long.

Right by the Golden Lady statue in Alsancak......if you are coming from Lapta or beyond.

Left if you are coming from Girne.

Then its a quick left, and the second restaurant along on the right hand side.

And I am told that more new stallholders are also booked. This market is expanding every week - must be the attraction that it is a free market! as well as the venue, that we can move indoors when the weather is crap, and you can always grab yourself a drink and/or meal from the bar.

Anyway, if you're looking for something to do or somewhere to go tomorrow for an hour or so, why not pop along to the Acmenya Restaurant to see what is on offer.

It's an ideal social event. There's often lots of different things every week as new stallholders come and go to supplement our regulars, and to keep things interesting, we have something different every once in a while for you (such as live music, dancing, the Kibris line dancers have been there, there's also been the chance to try your hand at bowling) and Nicky has her thinking cap on right now to come up with ideas for what to bring to you next.

So please keep coming to support the people who work so hard to bring you this market.
