The acid test is - how many of the replies are rebuttals?

If the replies to the negative thread are mostly to correct the balance then Cyprus44 has it right.

KAR take a lot of misdirected stick from people who don't really think things through. That's just human nature, but we all know that deep down they would be able to do more if their coffers were bottomless - and that the reality is the state of their finances is otherwise. i.e. they can't fix all animal related problems as they don't have sufficient funds. The answer is, therefore, not to moan about what they don't do but to raise more funds so that they can do more. A point which some seem only too ready to ignore. People, like yourselves, who work tirelessly to raise funds are heroes.

Couldn't have put that better myself Groucho, I fully agree with all you have said. I also think that until individuals take responsibility for their pets and have them neutered/speyed before they have litters the animal problem here will bnever get better.

It isn't just North Cyprus that has an animal problem though and I have to say at least there are people out there trying their best to do something about it. I congratulate all those that either provide time or donations to KAR they are deserving of that.

What bugs me groucho is that some think it is KAR job's not so much to fix animal's problems where they can but to fix their problems. Of course they present it as, this animal needs help but what they really mean is I want the problem removed for my benefit because it impinges on my life, distresses me, annoys me or whatever. If they actualy cared about animal suffering then they would balance KAR's inabiility to help in their specific case against the help it gives in so many other cases. As what they really care about is themeselves when KAR are unable to help in their own specific instance they lash out at KAR in general. KAR is not an agency who's remit is to help expats, it's remit is to help animals.

Bugs me too Erol... I just can't get my head round the lack of joined-up thinking. KAR, wholly supported by donations from well-meaning members of the public has only so much capacity, that capacity is determined by the level of support they get and yet loads of people seem to think if they find a dog/cat on their doorstep that they don't want that they can click their fingers and KAR must come running. Well we know it often can't work like that because they can only do so much. Yet the brickbats seem fit to throw their toys out of the pram and declare even less support for KAR not more... go figure how that's going to help.. if it wasn't tragic it would be comical.

Well for what its worth.............. I think they do a marvellous job under extremely difficult cirrumstances and those that berate them need to get off their backsides and do something themselves - armchair advisers are well and good but.....

Very quick to condemn, never come up with a solution - NOT IN MY BACK YARD - and bleat where's KAR and then moan about them

They are dedicated volunteers and help where they can so I say to those that moan do something yourself or SHUT UP

Erolz and Groucho, Well done for putting FACT in 'politically correct' words.... You are both spot on in everything you say. Unfortunately some of the expats here do think along the lines you describe. KAR do a wonderful job with very limited resources.

If any of you guys out there would like to make a difference, I could do with a bit of help in building portable kennels for KAR . This weather all the poor dogs up there need shelter. Alas, not all of the dogs are "well educated" so some of them munch the kennels to bits, so it's a bit like the Forth Bridge.

I can be contacted by e mail or tel. 0533 8444932.

It will be an eye opener for anyone who has not visited the centre and much more constructive than moaning about KAR's deficiencies

P.S. Msg 2 Thanks Groucho, but we are definitely not heroes, just people with time to spare with a little bit of compassion thrown in. There are many "unsung heroes" out there who do fantastic work for lots of charities.

come on , where are the volunteers to help make these kennels? At the moment it is pouring with rain, very windy and I bet a lot of you are snug and warm in bed, some of the Centre dogs are not.

OK I can wield a hammer if that is any good, let me know when and where please.

At the kennels we have a template for the construction of these kennels, they are constructed from a single sheet of 8x4 board, with a tin covering for the roof and entrances.

Three people can constuct up to 4 kennels in a morning.

I intend going up there next week, probably tuesday, please ring me if you can spare some time.

Wear old but warm gear
