In http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/83103.asp Harold writes "the moderators have no special instructions to protect anyone, whether they advertise on here or not."

However. let's be honest Harold - you know that's not the case - you and the other forum admin have no qualms about accepting criticism of virtually anyone, except for when it's about a certain estate agent/school owner.

We members know this forum to be the most widely-used and informative forum for the KKTC - indeed probably it is the most-read of any "media" for the British, resident here in KKTC. Therefore it is unfortunate that the forum admin abuse their responsibility and agree to what is tantamount to censorship - Closing and even removing threads (only about certain individuals) can not be construed in any other way.

I have never had any dealings with Unwins but for those who have and who feel they have been treated unfairly/unjustly then would it not be better to sort it out privately with the people concerned. This forum, as any other, has to have some basic rules, slander and libel cannot be allowed, that is for everyones protection, and no matter how many posts under however many titles are put on here they will be dealt with according to the rules of the forum. If you feel unable to comply with those rules then of course you are at liberty to refrain from posting but if you choose to carry on then the rules will eventually be enforced and you will be banned from posting, in that case you will have achieved nothing.

If you have an axe to grind then do it in the proper manner instead of just raking over the same old accusations and insinuations which may or may not have any truth to them.

Careful breamli marcusharris with no warning in any means got a 10 year ban!!! If thats what he got for helping people god knows what agents should really get...

Careful mark smith got ban quick aswell as it didnt suit certain powers around here....

Found it weird that alsancakjack kept picking on him... Guess people stick & listen to each other friends opinions rather then looking @ facts.

Can someone hoestly tell me if what marcusharris wrote was that bad to be given a 10 year ban???

hattikins,

I agree, people should remember that the right to free speech is a qualified one. No one has the right to take away a persons good name without real cause and a subjective opinion is not proof in any court of law ! If a newspaper printed some of the allegations made on this forum, without proof of their truthfulness, they would be sued and substantial damages would probably be awarded . The only defense would be that what was printed was the truth and , no one can expect the owners of this forum to rule on that ! One must also remember that sharp business practices do not necessarily, constitute unlawful acts !

Just so people know that by law in the TRNC no lawyer under any act can sue cyp44 reason cyber law does not exist... Asked 4 seperate lawyers due to a personel reason.

So excuses that ppl might sue is wrong... If false accusations are made which happens all the time on here then the accused should defend his or her self... But the admins do what suit themselves ....

Msg 11, I contacted 8 different TRNC Estate agents in November 2009 giving them a criteria of what we wanted to see when we came over in Dec 2009, they all promised to show me what I had asked to see which was only "new build completed properties" to certain requirements, no building sites, no plans and no photographs. 5 of the Estate agents obviously could not read and immediately sent me emails with off plan information, photos of building sites, site drawings etc these agents were immediately dismissed as they could not read my simple instructions.

When we arrived there was only 3 of the estate agents left which had sent us some details of what we had asked to see within the set criteria unfortunately the quality of properties shown by two of them was poor or not what we had specified.

Unwin's however showed us several properties within the set criteria, we had no problems with the builder (Fikri Terkan) PTP was obtained Nov 2010 and shared Kochan obtained Dec 2011.

No problems.

EamonnMc, your message 19.

I think The Saints was responding to Ed's message No. 11. We, too, bought through Unwins with no problems, in 2005, having bought off plan.

You can only speak as you find and of course it's a pity that it didn't work out for everyone. Just a point, your over-use of the exclamation mark tends to make your comments sound very aggressive.

Just an observation, you understand.

Surely, the substance of comments should be the only thing that you judge and take cognizance of ? However I do admit to having certain faults !! The second exclamation mark was just for you ! Oops sorry about that ! Lol.

It says so on their profiles. Simply click on the name on the left of any post and their profile will come up.

turtle,

If you click on your name on the left in the above post you will see this. http://www.cyprus44.com/forums/show-member.asp?member=Turtle

And that shows that you are not banned, otherwisw there would be a remark to that effect in red.

We also bought through Unwins and our builders were Kavanlar so fortunately for us we experienced only time delays with our build. We decided to sent our stage payments directly through our advocate because this seemed like the most sensible option.

I think the problems do arise in the main do to the builder not following through their obligations but if the agent knowingly direct you into the direction of these rogues just so that they can earn their commission what are folk supposed to think.

I have met both the Unwins and can say hand on heart that i would trust neither of them as far as i could throw them.

Re message 31

That information is only available to Forum Admin and there can only be one or two reasons how Stevo knows and I am sure you have already worked out what those 2 options are.

Stevo

"cyber law does not exist"

It does not need to - the laws that do exist are the slander and libel laws and the fact that you choose this medium is legally irrelevant. If somebody's name or business is damaged by a statement that you can't prove to be true you'd better be ready to go to court and lose.

Also stevo this forum is hosted on a UK server. The company that runs this server and sells hosting as a service on it is liable for any defamation made on it, if they are informed about it and yet do not act and the material in question is defamatory. That is the defamed could sue in the UK courts the company that this forum runs on if it notifies them of defamation and they do not act. The company that runs this server knows this so the forum owner (not the same company as the company that hosts it) allowing defamation here could easily lead to the closure of this forum. Thus its pretty sensible to not allow defamation or potential defamation I think.

@metininkibris msg12. For someone who has spent so much time and effort joining this forum under so many different names it is strange to me that you are so obsessed with the inability to leave it ;)

Message 41 your witty input is as always valued however when you joined the forum there was no indication that you could never leave or any personal information/ photo you put on your profile could not be removed should you have your ability to post removed / suspended for whatever spurious reason, as have a number of members.

However this takes the thread off topic and that is not something I am comfortable with . no more on that subject back to the Message 41 and their actions or lack of them ..

I know of one who has had their money returned. I know of another case under review at this moment. As it is not me, I cannot name names although I do know who they are.

My Agent was Lewis Estates and their salesman Carl Clark-Derby. I still have the glossy card sent to me by Lewis Estates via their advert in the Mail on Sunday making false claims. Lewis Estates are defunct.
