We just completed our move to the TRNC and so far I am loving it.

Does anyone know the duty charged on bringing a car over from the UK? Is it worth it? Or should we just get a car here? Any advice would be duly appreciated.

Hi Mary welcome to north cyprus hope you ejoy as much as we do. It would be advisable to buy a car here as trying to bring one in could cost more plus the hassle of dealing with customs. Have a look around first and see if you find anything.

take the log book to the customs office in Lefkosha and they will tell you how much duty is apyable then you can make an informed decision as to whether it is worth it to you.

Mary

From memory, when I brought over a car in 2007 (Freelander), the custom tax was 40% of the list price in Glass's guide. If the car was non-european then the custom tax was 65%.

Welcome, Mary, we too are new but this site is great for tips & advice, after teething problems we are now settling in, although still waiting for electric & water to be put on in our house that we are to eventually live in, but people are friendly & helpful, nothing as quick as the UK, but we know that when you decide to come & live so patience is needed !! Finding the buildings for residency in Lefkosa was easy, after really helpful advice & directions from the police & friends, so don't be afraid to ask .
